You can tell he was reading that from a script….too little too late in my opinion[/QUOTE
The too little is ESPN management saying nothing; they just let the kid announcer mumble his way out of this. ESPN thinks their stuff doesn't stink.
Same for Sankey. We would only hear him come to bama's defense. The rest of the league can suck it as far as he is concerned.
Oh how I wish both would be replaced.
Can we just stop with this "what should have been said" stuff. CTV said what he was able to say to respect the privacy of his player while respecting the public interest in the nation's #1 team.I think Vitello could have done a better job of handling the matter. You can say more to allay suspicions without being specific. Instead, he gave a cryptic response--he's sick--that was sure to invite speculation. If he was in fact sick, why not say: "We think he came down with a stomach bug"--or "he developed flu-like symptoms and we hope he'll be back in a day or do but he's still being checked out. Doesn't appear to be anything too serious." He might also have said, if this were the case: "He hasn't tested positive for Covid or failed any tests of any kind." Or, alternatively, "He's got a personal matter that he's dealing with--it doesn't involve any failed tests or rules violations or anything like that--and we hope to have him back soon." My point is, you can say more, eliminate suspicious speculation--without saying too much.
I really think this is way off base. So you would rather TV to lie about the condition of a player or discuss a very personal issue of one of his players. I think it’s time to renew your Vol Card!I think Vitello could have done a better job of handling the matter. You can say more to allay suspicions without being specific. This could have all been avoided with a better announcement.
"Evan Russell is ill and won't be available for tonight's game. He is day to day on his return."
