He (Michael Felder) has some good points but that's just his opinion. Maybe he knows more than the TN fans do? But still, the next coach at TN will be having to work his azz off to bring back the good ol' TN football we all love & root for to be on top of the SEC eastern division. It can be done with the right hire & people that are put in the right place. It's not all on the new coaches either. The players will have to show up & play to make the difference in wins. They can't get out there & fall behind & quit on the coach.

Well, even though I typically don't like The Bleacher Report, the article was spot-on. It basically states that the SEC (and other conferences) has/have changed since our last days of prominence, which is true. It's one of the (many) reasons why the program started falling of during CPF's last days.

Summary: It kind of states the obvious. It's going to take a true combination of aggressive recruiting and equally aggressive coaching to rebuild Tennessee's prominence.

So... what i get out of that article is since we don't have the in-state talent that Georgia, Florida, Texas A&M, etc. have then we're never going to return to prominence.

Damn, Bleacher Report is stupid

Pretty informative article, just learned that Harvard and Yale are no longer elite programs

That a rule here? I don't post enough to know these rules. Can u direct me to the rules page?

Since you have been here 8 years you have seen enough to know the rules. You don't have to follow th rules, but you will suffer the wrath of VN if you choose not to.:hi:

Whether we like it or not the writer makes a valid point, and he's not stating anything new. In the mid to late 1990's UT and UF really dominated the SEC, not just the East. Then Richt came to UGA and hired Rodney Garner away from UT and did a very good job of keeping the Georgia talent in-state. Butch Davis started keeping talent in North Carolina in-state. Spurrier at SCar and Swinney at Clemson have kept the top talent in SCarolina at home. IMO, aTm joining the SEC also hurts UT because now UT can no longer offer Texas kids the chance to come play in the SEC since they can now play in the SEC and stay close to home. And this is why I believe we need to hire a coach who has considerable college experience, has been in the SEC previously, and is an aggressive and relentless recruiter. And Gruden has none of these characteristics.

A real good coach can turn a program around pretty fast. Tennessee has some players. Just have to be coached alot better. You get a DC that knows what he is doing and we will be just fine. Chaney has this offense playing pretty good. What did we average around 35 a game.
