Even though we won, games like this piss me off.

11-1 when Hopson scores 15+ is pretty telling.

Just enjoy Hopson when he has a game like this, regardless of the opposition. They come too seldom not to take it when it comes.

But you can never change a guy's internal makeup.
That's just an excuse to rationalize acting like a guy's therapist instead of coaching him. Hopson didn't arrive at UT any more sensitive to criticism and prone to self doubt than, to use two examples I'm exceptionally familiar with, Calbert Cheaney did at IU or Steve Logan did at UC. Coach Knight and Huggs put both of them on blast from Day 1. The results speak for themselves in both cases. If you're too busy trying to be a kid's buddy and keep from hurting his oh so fragile feelings, blaming "makeup" is the perfect crutch.

Well the gang's all here.

I've never crowned Hopson as the Savior, I just have issues with how unfairly he's been treated on here.

its damn if you do, damn if you dont on here. If you say a someone has a good game you get "Why the hell cant he do it all the time" and if you same why is he up some night and down the others you get "Why cant you just support the team, blah blah blah." Some people on here value their own opinion and more than just the average fan opinion...

to compare huggins and knight with pearl as far as coaching is conserned is a joke. Not even on the same level.

Ever think one of the main reasons for that is Pearl's penchant for playing Dr. Phil instead of coaching up the weak minded? I'm making the comparison purely as means of showing that coddling the timid isn't the only option.

That's true. But do you see coaches like Knight or Huggs ever even recruiting a player like Hopson?

I think you take Hopson if you can get him and hope that you can inspire him to play with passion and focus every game. He has the potential to be a very good player, but potential doesn't win games.

Knight made the mistake of recruiting a few late in his Indiana tenure. Andre Patterson being the most notable. It's no coincidence that Patterson's arrival in Bloomington heralded IU's fall from the top of the Big Ten.

If Hopson would do this more often nobody would say anything.. He's done this for over two and a half seasons now. Play like a star one game and then hardly anything for a 3-4 game stretch. I mean i like the guy, he just is never going to have a lot of people say he's great when he plays good when he feels like it.

Outside of the 3 loss in a row embarassing stretch, where are these 3-4 games in a row where he played bad?

That's the point, this team goes as Scotty goes. He played horrible and look what happened.. Also he still has yet to learn how to dribble the ball. You "go to guy" should not be leading the team in turnover, by a large margain at that.

I'm still waiting for an answer.

I gave an answer, he cant tribble the ball, leads the team in turnovers by a large margain. the 3 game losing stretch was when Hopson played his worst.. How about the UCONN game. Where was he besides having nearly half of the teams turnovers.. Would we have beaten Pitt or Nova without Hopson, hell no. but you can say that when we get beat it's mostly because of the play of Hopsons. I don't remember the stat from the other night, but our record is great when Hopson scores over 15 i think. I just want to see him actually be consistent.

You've avoided the answer. Like some posters on here you have a really good memory on a bad game but short on the good ones.

Hopson's last 10 games scoring:
19, 17, 24, 16, 15, 20, 16, 15, 13, 22

Last 10 games TO's:
4, 2, 1, 0, 4, 0, 1, 2, 5, 0

That's 17.7 PPG and 1.9 TO's per game.

He's been the most consistent player for Tennessee this year whether some choose to believe it or not.

Look at that UCONN game. 13 points 5 turnovers is a bad game.. I agree he's the most consistent to a certain extent. But the leading scorer and go to guy should never lead the team in turnovers.

He played bad at UConn but that's only 1 game, not 3 or 4 in a row.

Your leading scorer who has the ball in his hands more than anyone outside your point guard is going to have more turnovers.

What so you think he can actually dribble. show me a player who has dribbled the ball off of their OWN knee or leg more than Hopson and i'll throw the white flag. You ask nearly every fan and they'll say the same thing. opson can not dribble.

I haven't seen so much backpeddling since two-a-day football practices.
