Evina Comment

You don’t have to be a genius to know that a 20 year old basketball player has no business whatsoever calling for the firing of any coaches.
I don't claim genius status , what does a players age have to do with telling truth , this is same coach that throws players under the bus
following a loss …………..

Westbrook needs to enter the Transfer Protocol.
Actually Holly is the one who should enter the Transfer portal...…..wait she has been in there and there has been no interest shown so guess she will either retire under stress or be put to work cleaning jock straps in Athletic Department somewhere far away from the Lady Vols

I disagree, but even if you are right I doubt anyone would respect their boss in that situation either.

That was not my point. My point was that both parties are adults, and players, much like employees, can leave if they don't like their boss (coach). It's not the same situation as teacher/student because students have no control over the matter while athletes and employees do.

I agree with what you said otherwise.

sadly we'll never be 20-0 with holly.
We could if Holly entered the transfer portal, the doors were locked and she had no way to communicate with anyone.A " head Coachless team would probably be one hell of a lot better than having Holly Warlick at the helm .

Gotcha. I see your point.

Every year under Holly, the scapegoat has been a different player. First it was Simmons, then Massengale, then Diamond, then Jamie Nared, and now Westbrook (and at times during the season, Davis). Without Westbrook we don't even come close to getting to the NCAAT. And let's be honest, with our name recognition, we don't get in this year.

Without that one player that can score and get their own shot, Holly probably would've already had a season like this or two. And y'all wanna sit here and dump on that one player that's saved your coach's rear end all this time? lmfao y'all wild.
If had not seen your avatar I would have thought I wrote this while I was dozing off!!!

To come back and take the lead was a team effort. Kasi was hitting her layups and defending doing their come back. She was in a groove and so was the team. Holly sat her & inserted Cheridine. They lost the lead by 3 and Evina turned the ball over.

Oh & no time outs were taken.

We can't win games with a lack of coaching. No leadership at all from the bench. I don't think I've seen asst. Nicki Anosiki move her lips or change her expression. -- Just saying.

Save the Lady Vols!
Fire Holly Warwick!

In all fairness, KK had just picked up her 4th foul and Holly brought in Green. Green immediately also scored in a similar way as KK then UCLA starting sagging in their zone and denying the entry pass. Holly had no answer.

To summarize, substituting KK was a reasonable move most any coach would have done in that situation; however, not having a plan B when UCLA inevitably shifted its defense is inexcusable.

Sooooo in other words, you're favor of political correctness.

People are always on the younger generation for being "snowflakes" (which is hilarious to those that work with the public, but I digress), and "too PC" but when they speak up and aren't PC they are chastised. Once again, y'all wild.

I'm in favor of players playing. And if a player wants to speak up, then people are going to speak right back.

So if a new coach comes in and benches her and we start out 20 and 0 and she speaks to the press and says the same stuff because she's mad that she's isn't playing are you still going to side with her then?
Nonsensical comparison. This case would display intellectual dishonesty in the response. Currently, no one with any sense could argue she is being intellectually dishonest about the sutuarion.

Assuming that you really are a coach......you would be cool with one of your players doing this?
You didn't answer my question.

I answered...my players wouldn't need to do this.

whether Evina did this in a moment of innocence or at a point of frustration, it was a cry for help
she is a leader on this team
if she is feeling this, so are her peers
if it was just her, she strikes me as a player with integrity enough not to say a word

In my opinion, she showed her truest leadership right there and I am not upset with her about it

If you watched Holly’s press conference it is abundantly clear that she plans to be back next year as hc. She’s said “ it’s not up to me” whether or not she will be back. Those young women have a right to their opinions because it’s THEIR lives that will be impacted forever by how they play and where they play and for whom they play. They need and deserve the best Tennessee can give them until they graduate. I played college basketball, and believe me when I tell you that the commitment can be overwhelming.

As to who Tennessee should hire if Holly goes...Helen Keller could be no worse!!

What did she say. Evina was asked what needs to change for next season; she said off court stuff and the Staff (technically that could be anyone from the HC to conditioning coaches).

Before the question was asked, was there any doubt that something need to change in the staff?

In the moment of another disappointing loss, when the players have realized how poorly they were prepped for this game do you really want another "we just need to work harder" response.

When asked if Holly would be coaching here next season, Evina said "I don't know." Given the circumstances, is that response not an honest and reasonable assessment of the situation?

If being honest and reasonable is deemed to be "disrepectful" perhaps the problems lies not in the messenger (i.e. Evina) but the toxic system she is being ASKED to comment on.

Could someone give the EXACT quote as to the question(s) Evina was asked? I can’t clearly understand the questioner. How the question is worded has a serious impact on how Evina’s response is interpreted... “changes needed” or “changes in staff needed” or something else? That makes a big difference on how to read her response.

Two points, jmo..
1) possibly an inappropriate question asked at an inappropriate time
2) emotional 19 year olds may not always express themselves as cogently as a head coach, admin, AD, etc.

I’ll wait until have more accurate data to make a decision, but will say Evina would have been wiser to have stuck with “I don’t know.” Less open to interpretation...and even then if some reporter/commentator thought they could make a story out of it, they would have.

The question should have never been ask of her. This makes me mad, the people should know better, the questions they were asking her should have been ask of Phil Fulmer. I believe Evina Westbrook was in shock with the questions they were asking her. she wanted to answer them but knew she should not, but let one slip out. I believe Evina Westbrook was ready for questions about the game.

Yes, God help us, this season actually could have been even worse. We would have been abysmal without EW, instead of merely awful with her.

She is probably our best player and truly did try to be somewhat of a leader (except that time she ditched class and got herself suspended for the game with the league leader). But her on-court development, for whatever reasons we could argue, has not been enough to make her the solid, consistent, winning SEC pg that her "talent" indicates she should be by now. So that's why we want to sit here and dump on her.

But we're always quick to add that its not her fault.

The dilemma is coaching. The players keep turning the ball over because of the coach. 🤔
They aren’t put in offensive sets to move the defense so therefore force all the action and turn the ball over..... if we actually had plays to run and execute then we wouldn’t turn the ball over near as much ...... that’s on Holly..... If you placed Evina in any other top program you would see her shine even brighter and not turn the ball over...... Hell a homeless bum off the streets could have as much success as Holly coaching a team full of MC’D all Americans.

Yes she did, and she almost never makes anything abundantly clear. I was horrified, thought sure she got it a few weeks ago.

What makes a person, when the whole universe is saying in unison one thing, but they disagree with it, think the whole universe is wrong but they, of course, are right? Even if Holly was secretly a Jedi Master at coaching and she knew it, why would she want to come back when her own players are kinda hoping she won't? In public!

Man I had hoped this would not get ugly, like we need more damage to the program. I was hoping for quick and classy send off first of next week, but now not sure after seeing PF all up in the men's tourney, as certainly he should be. May indeed be after the men's tourney.

Fair point. Its the textbook case of sticking a mic under the victims nose immediately after the crime and saying, "So how do you feel?" Leading question to a dejected kid in an emotional moment at the end of a very frustrating and disappointing season. What could possibly go wrong? It wasn't like she blurted it out or was happy to say it or anything, they kind of dragged it out of her. I hope when commentators are dissing her they actually watch the vid to get that context.

That said, UTAD should have prepared her for the question if they were going to make her available since the Holly issue is finally out in the open all over sports media. Not tell her what to say (hopefully, not sure after seeing Stepford MeMe) but just let her know it was likely to come up.

Or maybe she just said what the hell she's been busting to say for months.
