F1 thread

Graham Rahal, JR Hildebrand and Ryan Hunter Reay are three guys that could be at least decent right now. Alex Rossi, Conor Daly, John Edwards, Josef Newgarten(Nashville native), Connor De Phillipi, and Brett Smrz are some younger guys who could do the job later in their career.

That's nine that I can think of.

Those three guys could be decent to start out in F1, but I was thinking of a more immediate result. Putting one of the good Brazilian drivers that are in Indycar, i think, would be the best option.

Josef looks extremely promising, though. He'll probably be ready for F1 by the time the US is in a position to field an F1 team.

the IRL doesn't need to be losing American talent to F1.

This may be true. But there is honestly a lot more money to be made in F1 from a business standpoint for a team and a driver. I think until IRL gets more contracts to use more than just one engine and one chassis, it's not really gonna get many more big name drivers or teams.

that may be all well and god for a few years, but again it will come down to one dominant engine and one dominant chassis. that just the nature of open wheel racing. it's always been like that.

That's because F1 is truly a world sport. The TV revenue and marketing is unreal. IRL is mostly a Northern America sport which does ok but doesn't lead any market that I'm aware of.

I hope not because that most likely will never happen, especially if the IRL gets it right in 2012.

And other than Rafa, the Brazilians are either too old, or not good enough.

Americans are rarely over there for the long run, I don't see the harm in a 5-7 year stint, especially since AOWR allows a driver to compete into his late 30's early 40's. I'd love to see more Danny Sullivans, to be honest.

F1 is also much more expensive to compete in and quite easy to to go broke in for a team. A large chunk of the Race Rights fees and TV revenue goes to F1.

i'd rather see more Eddie Cheevers.

Just watched the race.

Gutsy call by Button to go with the slicks first. I refrained from looking at any results before, so I was certain it would cost him big. Especially through that first sector when he was loosing it.

Tough luck for Vettel and RBR. Yet another reliability issue costs them the win.

great race this week, with the exception of the top two cars, which i won't name in case someone is yet to watch it. tremendous driving by fernando alonso until the inevitable happened. this was one was full of great racing throughout the pack.

That was amazing driving by Alonso. Unfortunately pushed it a little too hard on that last lap. It was amazing how he was able to keep up with Jenson through the corners even with his problem.

The other teams are gonna have to find an answer during this off week for RBR. It's obvious that without reliability issues they are much faster.

Well, after the week off I know I'm ready for some F1. Unfortunately I won't be able to stay up and watch it live, though.

Ready to see if RBR can repeat what they did at Malaysia.

has anyone heard anything on possible penalties on lewis hamilton for his pit lane antics with sebastian vettel? or is lewis going to get away with BS on the track, again

well looks like i'm late on getting this news, can they coddle lewis just a bit more? i don't see how the two get the same reprimand and are considered both at fault when lewis cuts vettel off by going outside the lines on the pit in road and then when he comes out of the pits and drives down the slow lane it's somehow vettels fault.

The sad part is on the Speed Channel news page, all of the Lewis fans are saying the FIA is being too hard on Lewis.

i hate street circuits but Monaco is really fun to watch.

i probably haven't watched the Monaco GP in 10 years. they usually run the same weekend as the Indy 500 and we're on our way to the race by the time the GP starts.

I wonder why they moved Monaco back a couple weeks this year? Never did hear why.

Maybe they should've started the rumors that Webber was driving for his job years ago.
