F1 thread

I wish them all the success they can have, but I feel another hosing by F1 to an American promoter coming on.

I give them four maybe five years max before F1 ups the ante too high to continue.

Read an article about this on Autosport, and one of the promoters in Austin claimed it was more of a Formula 1 town than a NASCAR town.

Now I've never been to Austin, and I know he's not gonna come right out and say the opposite at this point, but can anyone that's actually been there confirm that? I'm doubting it, personally.

I cannot say for sure, but I also doubt it. You could probably say that for Indy, Long Beach, and Detroit, but it didn't make much difference.

They host one of the biggest indie(literally, not the genre) band, they're one of the greenest cities in the States, and they have a motto that says "Keep Austin weird.". Maybe they aren't necessarily a Formula 1 crowd, but they certainly aren't the stereotypical NASCAR crowd*. Which is a moot point, because they'll be getting people from all over the country, and from Central America anyways, so what difference does it make?

*That's such as stupid misconception. There may be a lot of more traditional NASCAR fans that won't accept F1(think Madhouse and Bowman Gray), but NASCAR fans are a lot more open to it than people think. Especially the ones that came to it during the split. It's ludicrous to say that Texas is a worse place than NY to hold a GP. Americans, for the most part, don't like racing. New Yorkers aren't really a racing crowd. The ones that are old enough to remember Watkins Glen are probably rich enough to come anyway. The 30 somethings are far more concerned about stick and ball sports, and the 20 somethings only care about being guidos. The people who come in won't want to spend time in traffic and get reamed on eating and hotel rooms. That's where Austin is so much better. No traffic, cheaper everything. And Texas has people that will want to see it, several junior formulae teams are based in Texas, NASA is in Houston, I'm pretty sure some of those guys will show up.

Appreciate the info, pt. Never thought of the Central American angle with it being in Texas thus closer to Central (and even South, relatively speaking) America where they do dig some F1.

Great race love seeing red bull fall. Good win for Hamilton and 2nd and button. Watch out for mclaren to finish strong.

Stupid rain messed up my recording. I only saw the first 20 laps.

I loved the results.
