I was so into F1 while living in Germany. Still follow here but not to the same extent. Went to a race in San Marino. That was a very fun bus trip. Schumi won that race to in the last laps vs Mika Hakkinen.

The 09 without all the winglets is much cleaner, less complicated looking. When I first saw the 09 itself, I was going to post it has an ugly front wing but the 08 is worse.

New F1 team based in the States...

autosport.com - F1 News: American team planning F1 entry
autosport.com - F1 News: USF1 to be based in North Carolina
autosport.com - F1 News: New US team backed by F1 chiefs
autosport.com - F1 News: USF1 open-minded on engine partner

No word yet on the drivers. AJ Allmendinger's name has been mentioned as a possibility as well as Marco Andretti and Graham Rahal.

I would like to see Jeff Gordon drive F1 for a couple of years. He would be perfect. He has proven he can handle a road course with an F1 car, plus the annual salary he would command would probably surpass anything he could make in NASCAR. I believe it was 26 million per year for which Shumacher was paid to drive for Ferrari. Gordon could command something close to that...plus Gordon is one of the very best drivers in the world. When he and Montoya did the crossover thing several years ago, he performed much better with the F1 car than Montoya did with the stock car. Of course, Montoya was never F1's best driver while Gordon has been around the top of NASCAR for quite a while.

I can't see Gordon going to F1 now. He seems to really enjoy the family life with his wife and daughter, so I don't know that he'd want to drag them all across the world or be away from them as long as he would be with the F1 schedule (testing, racing, etc.)

I don't see why they don't consider Scott Speed.
Maybe they saw how much better Toro Rosso was this past year and that raised a red flag?

I'm sure it wasn't all driver with how much development goes into those cars every year, but it didn't look good on Speed for Vettel and Bourdais perform better than he (and Liuzzi) did in '07.

There has been conjecture that Speed was not given the best setups/equipment. But your point is valid.

Well, Toro Rosso got leagues better just from Germany 07 to Spa 07. They got the bridge nose, and the seamless shift gearbox in Spa, and that's really when they took off, until Spa, Vettel was just as mediocre as Scott was.

I don't know, he was pretty good, and I don't think anyone would best him with the TC ban. He'd be like Massa, but not spin out every time it rains. Had he stayed he'd have won the championship this year.

In his prime Gordon may have made it in F1, but he has no open wheel road racing experience. I don't think he is up to the cut throat style of driving of F1. Now Rowdy Busch..................maybe! Tony Stewart always struck me as a potential F1 driver, at least before he put on some weight.

Kyle Busch's name actually has been thrown around in regards to one of the USF1 seats. He's young enough to give F1 a try for a few years and still come back to NASCAR before he hits his mid 30s if things don't work out.

Kyle Busch in F1 certainly is an interesting thought. they certainly could afford to pay him more than he makes now and he may be the one guy who couldn't care less about all the egos in that series.

other than a few stock car road course wins though, what has he accomplished outside of an oval?

looking back, though, at the history of American drivers (or drivers who come from an American racing series for that matter) doesn't exactly bode well for the next American driver in F1.
