Facts about NIL at UT?

The SC players do not give up any of their NL rights, that is factual.

You're killing me with the semantic quibbling here. Okay, fine, it's not "in exchange for their rights." "In exchange for the right to use their NIL?" "In exchange for access to their NIL rights?" "In exchange for the right to use their name, image, and likeness." Potpourri, pick whatever. I strongly doubt that anyone thought my statement meant the athletes lost ownership of their NIL rights, and I'm also quite certain no potential South Carolina recruits are reading this forum and would misinterpret my statement as such, but whatever, pick any one of those replacement descriptions. Or something.

My understanding is the 25K is unrelated to NIL, except it keeps getting put under that generic umbrella. Probably makes signing bonuses more palatable to confuse it with earned NIL.

The 25K, and other up front payments like it, are stipends, salaries, gifts, incentives, whatever you want to call it. Hell call it pay for play, bc that's what it is. But its just a payout with no requirements and no strings. And no real relation to name, image, and likeness.

That's why the football portal is jammed with college "free agents".

I think SC calls it some kind of team NIL deal that pays each player 25k. I don't know what business or source supports it, but evidently it means they can use the name and likeness of any player on the team to recoup the money if they had any desire to do so. In all guess the most that would ever be paid is 375 thousand dollars on this deal. Smart move by SC and at the moment there is no law that says you have to name the source of NIL so it is good start on recruiting to know your getting that much money guaranteed. With all the rich people that went to Tennessee you would think Tennessee would come up with such a deal and I am not saying they haven't. Kellie is just very weak in public awareness and so is the Boost Her club. We have no idea what the girls on the team get. Everyone that is listening knows what SC players are getting for just being on the roster and the same is true at a few other schools.

When I first heard about NIL money, I foolishly thought this money would allow the athlete to get a hot dog or two, or maybe a taco, but I never thought they would be able to buy the whole store....

In any event, it's a brand new day that the mighty dollar rules, not the legend of the school...Their silver bullets are mostly rusty and tarnished from age.

Winning plus connections. I don't think she has any connections they have to get money for players. Until she or we get someone who can do what they are doing Lady Vols basketball is going nowhere. Both Heupel and Vitello started strong in the very beginning and now have the winning resume to make it even better. Barnes was already established when NIL began. Kellie may have already waited too late to get herself established cause she is not going to win enough with the group she has now. Just not enough talent. Even if she somehow survives this season 2025 better be some kind of elite recruiting class or it is over for sure.
She has a hard time connecting with fans. Both JH and TV connect and relate to fans…TV turned baseball into what Pearl turned a dead men’s basketball program into. Excitement

Kellie lacks the energy to connect or her marketing teams needs an overhaul

Men's basketball and baseball do not have a lot of NIL money either.
The recruiting is great so they are doing something right. However you get it done NIL or just connection with players and recruits is all that matters. I couldn't be happier as to where basketball mens, baseball, softball, and football are or are going. The one that is tough to accept is the one with the most Championships Lady Vol basketball.

Well it was supposed to let athletes work too like all of these walk on football players working at grocery stores and letting athletes monetize their YouTube channels.

Players don’t care what it’s called as long as it gets into the account.

Quickly turned into pay for play and that is what I suspected it would become.
They’re trying to expand that too… I mean it would make athletes an employee basically (which I’d argue they are) I hate the idea of pay to play when universities have made millions off of unpaid labor and images. But it’s hard to make it fair. College sports are weird haha from a monetary side

The attendance figures are never released at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville either, Title IX has not attached itself to NIL (yet) but if the schools get more involved in it, that framework will eventually govern NIL
Why would title 9 apply to NIL? That's between the players and sponsor. Isn't it?

The problem existed before NIL was a thing
THIS. SAY IT AGAIN SAM(Ifvol).

Was CKJH recruiting consistently multiple top players before NIL?

This program needs a great recruiter, coach and NIL program to win a NC.

Must win some to make NIL work. Look at recruits that football and basketball are missing, NIL alone is not going to do it.

But the NCAA cares and the only way to give money is via NIL. So those that don’t want to call it that can call it signing bonus but it’s NIL.

For those that say it ain’t, show me the NCAA rule that allows for something other than NIL except the stipends we all know about.

It absolutely is killing us. Men's basketball is not hauling in five stars either. I think NIL is more in play for women's basketball though because college is where many of the ladies will earn their money.
So if you have good coaching you can win with non-five stars? Amazing thought
