Fair Catch?!

Didn’t they kick it out of the end zone the first half? Then their first kick to start the 3rd they kick it intentionally to the person opposite Dee in the hopes they get this call and steal a possession. Something you can only get away with once a season, but with their season on the line and after scoring a td in two plays, the perfect time to do it because you don’t want UT to score and take away the huge momentum they just built. It was a beautifully designed snow job by Saban in my opinion perfectly executed at the perfect time with the officials seemingly on their side all night.

There was one series where Tennessee punted to Alabama and the ball came down on about the 3 or 4 yard line, bounced upward toward the goal line, and a Tennessee player caught it and downed it at the one yard line. When the referee placed the ball down for play, it was at the 3 yard line. Pretty much the same thing happened in the A&M game, the ball was downed at about the 3 inch line and they marked it ready for play at the 1 yard line. It's not where the ball bounces, it's where it's downed.

It’s where it was first touched, we touched it at the 3, downed it at the 1, so it came back to the 3. I was worried they were gonna call a touchback though. When they showed the down the line view, it looked to be crossing the line and I was gonna throw my remote if they called it

that was a very weak fair catch signal. (being sarcastic). it was no fair catch signal. just a bad call. that's like saying you're calling a fair catch when you raise your hands to catch the ball. just bad all around

Even if it was a fair catch, shouldn’t that have put the ball at the 25? The refs were getting nervous that we were beating them.

Not if the returner tries to advance the ball after a fair catch signal is made by someone on the return team

In his presser today Heupel said the rule is that anyone who puts their hand above the shoulder signifies a fair catch, and we had a front-line guy put his pointing finger slightly above the shoulder. Unbelievable. I'm not calling for violence or criminal behavior, but someone needs to send a message to these referees. They should not be allowed to get away with that. Sankey isn't going to do anything.

Would like to see the video of that alleged "signal."

Look at the picture I just posted above, this is who Coach said called fair catch, or that the refs said signaled fair catch

11 players on the return team move their arms every kick off.

I agree. And more came out today that it was actually a front lineman on the 40 who raised his arm. The spirit of the rule states that is a fair catch. Heup said the players are NOT coached to do that. I’m not sure what the lineman did as I refuse to rewatch the debacle of a second half and relive the BS.

Also, me agreeing with a certain call doesn’t mean I agree w the rule. From what I just heard on 104.5 zone, Heup acted like the player waived his arm. If that wasn’t the player’s intent then the ref should show common sense.

Agree. I don’t make the rules and common sense should prevail. I just posted Heup’s response that a lineman signaled though he was on 40 yard line. I refuse to go back and watch as it’s over and we lost the game.
