Fair Catch?!

Nothing was called against Bama.
Come on now, you know very well that a main emphasis of Nick Saban’s game plan is to commit no penalties. Hell I’m surprised they even got called for the one penalty! That one penalty was certainly a BS call!!! And I’ll guarantee that Gary Danielson will back me up on this! /s

Played their cleanest game all year. Vols Walking back to the locker room with Jerseys half tore off..
Exactly. You mean to tell me the best defensive line in the sec the past few weeks against the worse offensive line giving up gobbs of sacs per game and penalties left and right and not a single one held? They only had one false start for 60 minutes.

What a miracle. Saban is the best coach ever.

It seems to me our defensive line gets held a lot. I thought I saw several tonight that weren’t called. Maybe I don’t understand the current definition of holding.

Yes, they were getting held. Most don’t notice it bc most fans just follow the ball and don’t recognize holding until it’s pointed out. I started looking for it or trying to bc it has been an issue against the GA d-line at times the last few years.

Or maybe I don’t understand the current definition of holding either. But if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s probably not a chicken 😂

Apologies for the stupid analogy

There is expected coordination and signaling between returners in pretty much every football game, every Saturday. There was no signal for a fair catch on that penalty. It was a low hand signal for the return. No one who is being honest thinks that was in any way a signal for a fair catch. It did not happen. It was blatant cheating to call it and then to confirm it.

CBS replay after the commercial break showed his arms pointed at a downward angle near his body. refs clearly reviewed the play and something, i just have no idea what
They were just checking the spot he was at when the so called fair catch was called, why someone who was not even in the play or involved would do so makes no sense much like having a real estate agent in Tuscaloosa officiating the game in Tuscaloosa

It was a very bad call as there was no fair catch signal..Williams pointed both arms down below his waste and offcial used that to pen us back just like they didn't call the blanton hold on Castles in end zone on our first FG or on White late in 4th or sumo choke hold to the face of Baron on Td 1st possession of 3rd qt but did flag TN for their holds. The only penalty on Bama was not it should have been a sack 5 yard loss but they blew play dead. I know we got beat in Los in 2nd half but come on. When National media is calling this out you know you got Hosed. Said. My peace. Heading to Worship Service GOD Bless all. In CHRIST Alone

See the new college rules dictionary for holding. It's right above the new rules for pass interference and just below the updated list of moves constituting a fair catch.

As I stated, I’m not going to argue. They called it and then reviewed. It pinned us back w horrible field position, but we had opportunities beyond that possession in the 2nd half.
Dee Williams did minimally wave both arms, hands pointed downwards. It was weak, but it was an accurate call. It could have easily not been called. The he same goes for the holding call on Campbell that was not called on the tipped pass. It was clear that Alabama defender was holding him. Refs are not going to give us anything, except against GA. If we play well we will get the calls. Vegas needs a GA loss. Wait and see. Go Vols.

It literally happened last week in a game. 1 returner called fair catch, and started running towards the ball, and his teammate caught it and the ball was placed on the 3 yard line instead of the 25, because no one but the player calling fair catch can touch the ball.

The problem with yesterday is that no fair catch was signaled, yet it was called.

He didn't wave anything. They moved about a foot from the side of his body

You're probably right.

He moved his arms up, in the same waving motion they do everytime the ball is kicked over their head. It’s a sign to everyone that they are not returning it. It is considered an invalid fair catch signal because his teammate did catch the ball. And the ball is dead right there.

No one is out to get us, it’s literally the reason for the “invalid fair catch” signal.

Watch what happened to Iowa, if that was this board we’d be burning the whole place down, but it also, was the correct call.

Except the Iowa player was waving his hands around. It was a bad call but much different since Dee moved his arms about 12"

Tennessee wasn't called for an illegal fair catch. They just marked it down with no return.

Correct. And that’s what’s most confusing. They never threw a flag or called a penalty. All that it shows is that the refs either

A. Don’t know the rules (ball comes out to the 25)

Or

B. Were biased in their calls

Either way, it’s inexcusable.

You see a lot of teams do the arms raised signal. I always thought that it was the returner telling his fellow returner that the ball wasn’t coming to him but to the other return man.

It’s a rule, it was judged correctly, we didn’t get screwed on this call at least.

There were plenty of bad calls, missed calls, absolutely asanine calls, and then just incompetence.

This was not one of those calls

Don’t waste your time, you have the holier than thou crowd who thinks it beneath them to call out officials. Well I’m calling both out for their BS, because I’m over it.
It was a garbage call at a very opportune/critical time of the football game.
what’s crazy is that i knew it was coming, I literally thought to myself, “that was a clean half of football and we will not get the benefit of the doubt in the 2nd half.”
I think I even posted as much at the end of the 1st half.
We act surprised that this keeps happening yet we KNOW it’s coming.

I watched the replay and did not see a fair catch signal or any movement that possibly indicated a fair catch signal.
