Favorite Movie of All Time?? and why

No way I could choose 1. To whittle it down to top 5 I'd have to say the ones I've seen the most times. That list would probably look like...

Godfather 1&2
Young Guns 1&2
The Lion King
Scarface
Sons of Katie Elder

I've never seen more than 15 minutes of Dazed and Confused. Apocalypse Now would be on my next 5 list.

My favorite movies of the 2010's

Fury Road
Sicario
The Tree of Life
Get Out
Ex Machina
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Dunkirk
Social Network
Parasite

Man Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is certainly a divisive movie. If you don’t understand what you’re watching, the movie is utter crap. I knew it had something to do with the Manson Family, but being born in 1985 I just really didn’t get it. I thought the movie was atrocious. People who understand what they are watching absolutely love it.

After researching the movie and the Manson murders a bit, and understanding that the world was gutted at the time and Tarantino was making a “This is what we all wish had happened” reenactment, I gained a little more appreciation for it. Still not a great movie IMO, but at least I get it now.

I agree. One of Tarantino's misses and I think the dude is genius. It felt like he had an ending in mind and had little idea on how to get there. It had it's moments but not a great movie.

Nice list. Other than Once Upon a Time and Dunkirk I love this list.

see two posts above on Once Upon. I have a very high bar for QT, he simply missed it. Probably toward the bottom of his films.

The only bad movie he has made was the Hateful Eight. KR was the only interesting character

I enjoyed the hateful eight way more than once upon a time.
I thought the individual performances in Once Upon A Time...were great. However the story, the plot was a mess. I remember leaning over in the theater to my wife about midway through the movie and whispering "does this movie even have a point"? The movie felt like a collection of individual brilliantly acted scenes but none of it felt cohesive and the story seemed aimless.

Gone With the Wind.

The runners up:

The Wild Bunch (greatest western ever. The only significant female lead is shot and killed about one minute after she shows up. And everyone laughed!)
The Empire Strikes Back (greatest western ever set in space)
Doctor Zhivago (greatest Russian western ever set around WWI. Fell in love with Lara (Julie Christie) like everyone else in the movie)
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (greatest western ever not named The Wild Bunch)
Unforgiven (greatest western ever featuring Clint Eastwood)
Saving Private Ryan (greatest western front war movie ever)
Breakfast at Tiffany's (greatest western featuring Audrey Hepburn in New York City ever)
O' Brother Where Art Thou? (greatest western Mississippi movie ever)
Pulp Fiction (greatest western LA movie ever)
Inglourious Basterds (greatest multi-lingual western featuring fightin' in a basement ever)

I can't pick just one. I have 3 that are in my rotation that I usually watch at least once a month:

Cloverfield - Revolutionary film. Great story. Characters you could feel something for. Well-acted. Cliffhanger ending. Spawned it's own universe of film. The films in the Cloverfield universe have the best ARG's and a great community that works together to solve all of the mysteries.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Mainly the cinematography and the musical score. Love most of Terry Gilliam's movies. A beautifully shot film with a fantastic cast that just makes me laugh.

House of 1000 Corpses - My guilty pleasure movie. I love Rob Zombie, Bill Moseley and Sid Haig (RIP). I love the way it is edited and it takes me back to those 1970s and 80s slasher movies. It is a fun scary movie for the first half. But the second half of the movie gets so gritty and dark. The scene where Otis shoots the deputy (played by Walton Goggins) will forever be one of my favorite scenes. Devils Rejects is the best and most polished film in the trilogy, but HO1KC will always hold a special place in my heart.

Honorable mention: Fight Club

Go ahead "cinema" snobs. Snicker and laugh all you want. They're not Citizen Kane or Titanic, but they're mine

Favorite “in the theater” experience for me was Raiders of the Ark. Hard to name a top all-Time movie for me. I probably could name a top 20.

No particular order;

Raiders of the Lost Ark
Pulp Fiction
Dead Zone ( not well known- based on Stephen King novel and starring Christopher Walken)
True Romance (Pulp Fictions little brother)

Unforgiven
Pale Rider
Outlaw Josey Wales
The Good,Bad and the Ugly

Coen Brothers movies(3)
Fargo
No country for old men
Blood Simple-First Coen brothers movie - little known classic IMO.

Godfather 1&2

Poltergeist

Jaws
Alien
Rocky

In the Heat of the Night
Planet of the Apes
Predator
Sicario

I have watched each movie on this list dozens of times. I could watch them all today as if it was the first time watching them.

I really liked The Dead Zone….. good movie.
I saw Blood Simple once years ago when it first came out on video…. I don’t recall a whole lot about it except thinking wtf did I just watch? ….. after seeing it.
