Ahhh a yuper, at least that's what we called them. Jennifer Grandholm was gov when I first moved there. She was Canadian. I think she did a pretty decent job, nothing too radical. Man, there were allot of people that hatred her.I work with a guy from the upper peninsula. From listening to him talk, I thought he was Canadian. He's a pretty legendary drinker too.

There are many miles of nothing but fenced off acres in northern Michigan. These are people you really don't want to screw with because they believe in being left alone. I was mildly amused at my daughter's responses to seeing dead dear strapped to trucks. It bothered me not at all. Gave me an opportunity to explain a few things to them.
I agree with being left alone. But plotting to kidnap and kill someone...nah.
