Fentanyl Now Leading Cause of Death For Ages 18-45

Gov. Abbott issues order designating Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations

Fentanyl is a clandestine killer, and Texans are falling victim to the Mexican cartels that are producing it,” Abbott said. “Cartels are terrorists, and it’s time we treated them that way. In fact, more Americans died from fentanyl poisoning in the past year than all terrorist attacks across the globe in the past 100 years. In order to save our country, particularly our next generation, we must do more to get fentanyl off our streets.”

Gov. Abbott also directed DPS and law enforcement agencies to identify Texas gangs that support Mexican drug cartels and seize their assets to disrupt cartel networks that may be operating in Texas communities.

Take that, DeSantis !!

You sound as concerned about this drug as Biden is. Leading cause of death among people 18-45 gets a snarky ass comment from you. Let's send more money to Ukraine!

I think the subjective intent of the policymaker is relevant here. That these two keep ping ponging back and forth with who can appeal to the lowest common denominator the most, cost be damned, says a lot about their character.

You really think addressing the fentanyl issue is just an attempt to out do DeSantis?

What is the Heroin Triangle? A Georgia Epidemic | Lakeview Health

"Lowest common denominator"

The Heroin Triangle is a group of suburbs in Atlanta forming the “triangle”. The focal point of Georgia’s heroin epidemic is the north of Atlanta, then continues northwest to Marietta, east to Alpharetta, Duluth, and John’s Creek, and ends southwest to Sandy Springs. Former Georgia Governor Nathan Deal referred to the drug overdose crisis in his state at the time as “an ongoing epidemic that ravages the hearts and minds of not only individuals but also the communities that they touch.” An investigation by WXIA-TV Atlanta in 2017 found that the number of heroin-related deaths in four counties between interstate highways 75 and 85 — Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, and Gwinnett—has increased by 3,844 percent between 2010 and 2016. While news coverage of the triangle has decreased since then, heroin remains a threat, in 2020 more than 13,000 people died from aheroin-related overdose in the US.

See, that question ignores the issue I present. Objectively OF COURSE it's an issue. Who would argue otherwise?

But SUBJECTIVELY the issue being raised in this fashion, to further disparage Mexicans, is clearly motivated by political theater. Again, no reasonable person would argue otherwise.

Weird that they split heroin away from fentanyl and say 13,000 deaths. The deaths are actually over 100,000 per year and there is no real difference on the street between the two...either one gets snorted or injected interchangeably depending on what is available. Its an epidemic nation wide and the leading cause of death now for people under 50yo....

If it's killing so many maybe they should stop putting it into their bodies. It can't kill you if you leave it alone

I'm new to the thread but the alarming numbers are a little misleading. Fentanyl deaths have largely replaced other opioid deaths and then the remaining increase may be just related to Covid (depressed, unemployed people turning to opiates).

So yeah, fentanyl is bad but let's keep our heads.

This clip is hilarious and people are unabashedly using fentanyl to scare you.
