Ferguson Riots

I joined to get my degree, and did so in only 4 years of active service. From my experience the majority of the lifers were people who "couldn't hack it" in the real world. So they stayed in because their leadership didn't have the balls to give them anything less than a 5 EPR.

To be a lifer (in the officer ranks anyway) you have to be a very political animal. "couldn't hack it" is not really an apt description of these people because I "couldn't hack it" in that realm. The ones that advance to flag rank are extremely good at the political thingy until there is an idiot installed at 1601 Pennsyvania who hates the military. Then all bets are off and you get guys like Wesley Clark who can kiss azz with the best of them. I have no desire to be political so I left. But I joined to serve my country and really had no desire to leave even though I got a great education which has allowed me to be successful financially. It is the politics that has quality people leaving the military.

Edit: For the discussion, you know that the only difference between a brown noser and a sh!t head is a brake failure?

I've always imagined there were only two questions on an OPR:
Do you have a gag reflex?
Do you have a spine?

If you answered no to both, I assumed they just promoted you. My favorite officers were always LT Col who were about to retire, the were far less fake.

Actually it means I received about 50 credit hours in one year, primarily through cleps and dantes, and received recognition for my efforts during our bases phase ii, and also rewrote the majority of our checklists.

How many of those checklists really needed to be rewritten? I have found over the years that the guys that do that time and time again are climbing a ladder.

We had multiple new AFIs and local directives we were not in compliance with when I began the process. Also some of our contacts were outdated or merely poorly phrased. As opposed to saying "contact the OG commander" or "contact the wing commander", it would say "contact col blah blah". So I changed all of those checklists to reflect titles so they wouldn't have to be redone every couple of years.

We were also preparing for a major inspection at the time, so we were trying to get it taken care of before that began. It was a lot of responsibility for an A1C

This is true. O6s that had no chance of making flag were mostly pretty good guys. If there was a possibility of getting that star though, especially when they pinned on command, look out...

Yeah I'll give credit where it's due. Many of those kinds of checklists do get all F'd up with names when they should be more generic in nature.

I spent the first 6 months in my first job in the Navy shredding TS messages that the previous 4 Comm Officers were terrified to destroy. God I hated that gig.

Yeah we had classified material and out of date instructions like crazy in our safe that we also had to clear up, but I didn't do as much of that. Our Sorts manager took the lead on that since a lot of the info was Sorts related.

most 06's that are in command positions, at brigade level or higher are in line and still in the zone to be a general officer

if they f up, in command then they are screwed

I was in the Navy. It was rare to see a Captain. In the AF ya'll had Colonels in charge of tire chains at every base.... When a Captain was in line/zone for flag, everybody knew it. Coincidentally, if they weren't in line, everybody knew that too. It was the hi visibility Commanders that you had to watch out for.

How about instead of saying "F*** Obamacare" you stop breaking the law and buy insurance?
