I think both can throw or do as good as Worley and probabaly better.I support Jones and this staff. Like it or not we're in third cycle of rebuilding in this program and burning a redshirt at quarterback out of desperation when the receiving core hasn't matured yet is a waste.
Desperate acts lead to poor decision making - whether that be during a game or in preparation for one. If Jones is doing this to light a fire under the current starter then okay, but otherwise I think such would be a mistake.
Fact: We're just not that good . . . yet, but it will come with a maturing roster and buy-in from both the players AND THE FANS.
Ferge-
Pros-great leader, strong arm, Winner,
Cons- 179LBS- could be broken in half, no experience
Dobbs-
Pros-WOW- watch his senior year video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9KGlVgspFois
Great upside, good arm, good runner
Cons-soft spoken, Freshman, no experience
Dobbs looked better in the one live scrimmage in the fall. Throws the best deep ball and is the most mobile. He had a 45 yard bomb and broke a big run when he faked out some defenders. He is more physically ready than RF, has about 20 pounds on him. Has the most big play potential and best arm of the qbs.
I was at the open practice, Dobbs arm strength is nowhere near that of Ferguson or Peterman for that matter. He was elusive but his arm wasn't exceptionally strong. He is close to Worley in arm talent but he has a quicker release. Maybe his feet will win him the job but to say he has the best arm is simply false.
I suggest you watch RF highlights before declaring your starter.I'm yet to go back and watch Ferg's highlights, but I've watched Dobbs' again.
He seems to have a great arm.
He seems to read defenses well and know where to go with the ball.
He seems to have a good feel for pressure. Several times, the pocket collapse and he was smooth in escaping pressure while keeping his eyes down field.
When he did take off and run he didn't have blazing speed-- but he ran smart, made people miss, got what he could, and got down.
He played with confidence. He could thread his passes, could pass with touch, and got a lot on his throws.
Just some observations.
I suggest you watch RF highlights before declaring your starter.
Your whole post was about Dobbs and how you watched his highlights AGAIN and have yet to watch RF. So that why I sarcastically said "before you declare your starter."
In the words of CBJ, "Whoever practices best this week, will start".
That to me means, forget what has happened up to this point (Spring, summer, last three weeks of the season.) Whoever can guide this team the way he wants this week will start.
A lot of us have our personal favorites, but let's see how the process works and cheer for whoever CBJ chooses.
I never said I hadn't watched Ferg's video. The last time I watched both their highlights was during the recruiting season. I knew I could use a refresher. That's twice you've inferred or stated that I said something that I haven't.
My whole post was about Dobbs b/c that was the QB whose highlights I was watching.
(Edit: Since I wasn't naming who should start, but was instead just commenting on one QB without comparison, the entire idea about whether I had seen both highlights is a moot point anyway...)
You really may want to switch to decaf-- for your own good.
