Fickell to Wisconsin

I was down on Banks but after last night I think with better players he will do a good job.

That's sort of where I'm at right now, but I don't know. We've been hit big-time on injuries in the secondary and we just don't have the depth to deal with it.

I think Banks gets more time. Martinez .... we'll see.

ALL CAPS all you want.

HIS defense gave up almost 500 yards 6 TDs a game in conference play.
The General, Bear, and Saban would have a hard time limiting yards when we have an offense that Scores every 2min that it has the ball.

Even before the season the secondary was OFTEN projected to be our biggest issue. So yes we have one of the least talented secondaries and one of the toughest SOS out there. Put those together and you get what you get.
You can't convince me that we have less talent than like 130 other schools or whatever it is.

In no way am I saying get rid of Banks, but.... if you had the chance to hire Muschamp or Leonhard as DC, and the money was the same, who do you hire?
Muschamp? LOL no thank you. I'm don't ever want to see the 3/4 be our primary setup again. We've failed twice trying to install it and our front 6 weren't the issue on defense this year. Muschamp needs to be in rehab for Red Bull addiction.

Leonhard? Sure but that's not happening.

GaTech DC Andrew Thacker and/or DC Mike Tressel of Cincinnati would be good ones to go after if we can find an open spot on staff. Both are young and GOOD and may be looking due to the head coaching changes at those schools

Its hard to know from the outside looking in if its coaching or player adaptability, I think if we see some turnover this off season it will answer that question for us, Banks may be a hit or miss type of guy as well, it seemed like against some teams we had a good game plan and against others we were terrible, could have been matchups too, so idk, offseason maybe will tell the tale.

Could we improve from last in the country? Probably, but we need to know if it's actually the scheme or hiding the lack of talent as to why secondary plays 50 yards back
Yes for sure, I think the off season will answer a few of those questions, if its poor coaching/scheme I think we see some turnover if its player adaptability I think we see the same coaching staff next year hopefully with a upgraded roster.

Vandy basically tried to do what they do best instead of doing what we’re weakest against. We’re still awful at defending the pass and never will be worth a damn with Banks and Martinez here. We need better talent but our talent isn’t as bad as the product on the field has showed it to be. Get Mason or someone with a history of putting great SEC defenses on the field. The hand wringing and wait till next year isn’t going to get us far.

You don’t have to have less talent than those who do not play our schedule to have worse stats. Those ranking are not weighted. If we played in the OVC not the SEC our ranking would be better. Not rocket science. Whereas our Offensive numbers are also REAL as they were earned against our SCHEDULE.

Part of the reason, probably biggest, for concern before the season was the coaching of that position.

Maybe by some agenda driven fans. If Coach does not agree then he will be back. That is where my money is. don’t see him letting the current guy pick at least 6 guys for another Coach.

Potentially excellent hires by the Huskers and Badgers.

Here is hoping they can give Ohio ST and Michigan some legit competition in that joke of a conference.

Really a good point here. There is a ton of teams who would have worse stats than us if they played our schedule.
Doesn't make our performance any better, but it would make our ranking look better.
bottom line we have to play better pass defense to take the next step.

Which years? The ones where he failed at Georgia or the ones where he failed at UT 8 years ago?

If it's true that he was a "failure" at both UGA and UT prior to this latest stint, then he shouldn't have been hired by Heupel, and your beef is with him. if you believe Martinez is a failure, then you must believe Heupel's decision to hire him makes Heupel a failure in making that hire. So, are you calling for Heupel to be fired? If not, why not?

Not calling for Heupel to be fired nor am I calling for Martinez to be fired. Just stating facts. His secondary units have had poor results at every stop he has been in.
