Brohm was coach, and we got FU---D by the refs at the end. Of course, quoting a whiskey soaked buddy that called me after the game "WHO CARES ABOUT THE REFS! WE PLAYED SUCH S-- DEFENSE WE DESERVED TO LOSE" (except a lot more slurred).

I agree we deserved to lose, but was not happy we did, is the difference between me and my inebriated friend.

Regardless...their was a horrible call at the end of that game.
Just re-enforces my point.
Very good at Neutral Site games - arguably 5-0.
Very good at Home games - currently 20-4.
Not good at Road games...7-8

Wow, just realized something...Heupel can continue to be not very good at road games and still win a Natty here.
If he does well enough enough each year to host the first round then the rest of the games are all neutral site...strange chess match to play there.

If we win our home games and the one in Nashville, we are in the playoffs.

This team doesn't have what it takes. The offense looked pathetic and the defense couldn't get off the field. Then a guy ran into the punter. All 3 phases underperformed with two weeks of preparation.

Three things you must have to win consistently on the road IMO. 1) solid defense 2) mature experienced QB 3) solid OL play.

Vols had 1 of 3. Frankly as poor as the OL played, the QB never had a chance.

The one in Nashville is not going to be as easy as some people think. I know Bama is down a little, but Vandy put up 40 on them. And Vandy should of beat Missouri.
Vandy is a to 25 team right now. So is UK imho.

BS. It was an SEC road win against a ranked opponent, and it was blowout. This proves my point .... the only games that ever "count" in threads like this are the ones that support the argument. There will always some bull crap qualifier for the ones that don't.
That LSU team also wasn’t very good. They were hyped like ND is.

Let’s hope when Sam Pittman gets fired (which is delayed because of his
“Great win”) we can hire him to coach the O-line. Our vol transfer looked better than he ever did at TN.

No one is claiming that Tennessee loses every road game they play. Of course there are exceptions.

Eric Cain VQ said last night that going against the 3-3-5 on the road in a loud environment can be hard for communication when going against that stack Cooper has to come out and called the protection then the guard then the tackle and so on and if they’re not on the same page pass pro is going to be hurting.

You can find trends anywhere if you look hard enough. That being said, our offense IS hampered by loud road games. It 100x harder to crank up the tempo without having costly mistakes in that kind if enviroment.

The other big factor in this game was that we wasnt focused and ready to play with intensity. It was apparent to me that we were flat and lackadaisical watching the game. It happens...especially when everybody has been talking about how good you are for 2 weeks. Throw in a young qb, an opponent that feels disrespected that is playing the biggest game they have had at home, and you have the blueprint for a close upset.

All just my opinion of course, as a former athelete that has experienced both sides of that kind if game.
I totally agree, especially with your first paragraph if you will go back and listen to Locked On Vols - Daily Podcast last night, Eric Cain explained this in detail.

First time out here, they look bad it happens. Look at history, most of year championship teams **** the bed at least one game year.

Not many as I pointed out but Kirby Smart definitely figured it out the last 2-3 years. He hasn't even dropped a regular season game. Saban as well.

Kirby hasn't dropped a regular season game?

Well dang, i guess i just dreamed they already had a loss this year.

And Saban had losses nearly every year he coached.

Could the score have had anything to do with that? It was a blowout from the start.
If you remember the LSU game we punched them in the mouth early, scored on them and they just wilted the rest of the game. Early in the Ark ( think it was 1st play) 000 we had a 15 yard pass/1st down called back on penalty, and next play was the predicted " run up the middle. Young teams get jolted early and often don't recover. Vols looked out of sorts for the whole 1st half Sat.

Winning on the road, in the conference, at night is hard to do. Never take it for granted. The downside of being a top ranked team is that you get scheduled in the night slot and have a rowdy sell out home crowd to go up against.

Yes, we need to be better on the road. Yes, we need better playcalling and OLine play. But let's not blow it out of poportion. Arkansas will be a top 25 team by season's end. This loss won't look too bad as long as we don't let it snowball into another loss.

Don’t forget bonehead plays on the road will get you beat. The first play on offense, a stupid penalty negated a big gain. The ”roughing” the punter play flipped momentum in the second half and put a gassed defense back out there. A number of holds, etc. On Arkansas were not called but you have to play smart and not beat yourself on the road. Having 2 former Vols as team captains for Arkansas with their knowledge of the system did not help either. A tough night overall but give the Vols credit for beating the Sooners in that big road game.
