Finebaum Re CPF

I didn't even read it. I'd imagine it's the same old garbage.

UT is going to be the underdog against Cal, FL, and GA and the majority of the media is exepting UT to lose those games. He's only saying what the majority of the media think. I do think the fan base is becoming less forgiving of 8-5, 9-4 type seasons from Fulmer, although I do not think Fulmer will get fired with that record this season.

I didnt find anything wrong with what the article stated. Yes, we have dropped off, yes CPF has a losing record against Richt, yes we have lost 3 in a row to AU, yes we have a daunting schedule next year, but, No CPF wont get fired, of course i said the same thing about Majors. We cannot take another year on the Hill like the last. it's that simple. If we tolerate it we run the risk of a lengthly downward spiral that lasts for years.

I humbly disagree, I think he loses 3 games this season coming up he's gone. Hamilton has already commented about expectations.

I would like to wager $10 with you that if Tennessee goes 9-3, Fulmer will not be fired. :)

So much for being openminded. :bad:

I don't like fellow UT alum Paul Finebaum, but it appears he is right on the money on this one.

Forgive some of us if we suffer from Finebaum fatigue. Writing that article in mid June is journalistically lazy on his part. Is there really anybody that didn't know exactly what that article was going to read like? Finebaum has probably written that article 100 times. Whatever his opinion is, the pot shots render it meaningless.

If it makes you feel any better, I don't read your posts either....

Except for this one of course. :geek:

Well, it wasn't exactly Pullitzer material, in my opinion. For Rockydoc's benefit, it basically came to the conclusion that if Fulmer follows up a 5-6 season with another lousy one, he might be in trouble, and that the Vol's play a tough schedule. Evidently, he believes the troubles have something to do with Phil not liking Alabama.

Startling conclusions and infalliable logic, IMHO.

He might be a Bama homer, but I agree w/ just about everything he said. Facts are facts and Phil has a horrible record versus the top coaches in the conference. He also didn't mention that we haven't beat a top 10 team at Neyland since 99. I still don't know how I feel about the whole thing. On one hand he finally admits that he should've made coaching changes but then cops out of it by saying but someone told me not to.. anyone else wonder about that quote?? And that whole thing about last season being a "perfect storm" :banghead:. But then again if Phil wins 9 games next year a bowl win and a good recruiting class all is forgiven. A little unprofessional to call Phil "The Big Orange Pumpkin" though.

Tom Dienhart called him the Great Pumpkin in his Sporting News web column this week. I guess all those people who disputed my point last fall about the media ridiculing Fulmer and portraying him as a buffoon will have to rethink their position.

Fulmer will not be fired. We cannot expect to win 10 or more games this year.

If the program has fallen to the point where we can't expect excellence, I can't think of more persuasive evidence in favor of a change at the top.

Absolutely. I'm positive the coaching staff hasn't done anything to write home about since '01.

I'm glad you so admire Coach Fulmer that you find humor in him running the program into the ditch.

We'll see what happens this year. All you do is bad mouth the program. There is no humor in 5-6. And the fact that you try and run us in the dirt even more upsets a lot of people. It shows your lack of faith, common sense, and further it divides our program.

Common sense says a coach who hasn't won so much as a conference championship in seven years at a school that fashions itself a national power isn't getting the job done. Two conference titles in 13 years isn't exactly overwhelming either. If everyone else thinks 1 National Championship gets him a lifetime pass, so be it. I'd actually like to see him earn his hefty salary.

do you think championships come in three year cycles? I really don't think you know what sports are all about.

And i said it before if you are so unhappy pick another team.

Around Knoxville, they apparently don't come in seven year cycles. I would respond with my usual eloquence regarding your ludicrous attack on my loyalty to UT, but I've grown tired of dealing with such trifling silliness.

It is quite real my friend. If you think I am joking then you are mistaken. I am defending UT football and the program which is something you want to be critical of every chance you get. When I attack your loyalty I do so with the utmost sincerity.

Sincerity doesn't remove the silliness from it. You would have been a perfect Russian in the '70s. Don't question the program, the leaders are infallable. Quick question: Name the last major football power to allow a coach to go 7 years without winning a conference championship.
