talent wins games in the SEC= proven fact. Look at the teams that beat us each year. But part of the job as DC is finding players , judging players, and putting them in position to win games. Defense wins championships.

And a defense was non-existent when Heupel took the job which is why we couldn't even throw a bag of money at a good DC to get him to come here. What SEC talent do we have on defense?

If I was Nico, after watching this season sh$t show, I would be heading West. Tennessee players need mental and physical toughness and conditioning, Shrader showed them what that really means.
I was very impressed with Shrader, he was tough, ran smart and ripped through Tennessee's soft line with no problem. Wish TN had players with his heart

Injuries have limited our defense. I’d be fine seeing Martinez go but Banks isn’t the problem. We need more horses and better athleticism at LB and DB.

Turnovers and lopsided TOP aren’t on banks.
We were out schemed in this game as bad as I have ever seen. How many times did their quarterback escape to the right side and he never changed the defense to contain the right side. two times we had them third and ten he ran to the right for a first down. that is only two examples of him escaping to the right side go back and watch how many times it happened.

Yeah the offense **** the bed but ultimately we will be fine there in the long run obviously. The defensive schemes have been atrocious all year. Yes our opponents are allowed to hold all game for whatever reason but when you allow a team to do the same **** all game, it’s on coaching. #44 was horrendous today. The worst linebacker play I’ve ever seen and they kept him out there basically all game. Keep the Dline coach, but the rest of the defensive staff needs to go and go NOW.
Regarding #44... I remember when #6 was easily as bad. He turned out to be pretty good. Maybe another year will help. But youre right, #44 was awful yesterday.

Remind me again why you think the defense should be lights out.... Are you high?

I’m not going to say that I know Banks can’t be a high level coordinator, because I can’t say that with certainty. By the numbers, the defense has steadily improved. However, I voted yes because I’m tired of seeing the abysmal game planning that leads to games like yesterday and ‘22 SCar. Something has to give, and frankly I just need to see some concrete sign that Heupel is committed to winning and results like yesterday are as unacceptable to him as they are to the fanbase.

Tennessee does not have championship level coaches, it has been made clear over and over again. Heup loses every important game on the road and that is a glaringly bad trend. Look at the beatdowns Heupel continuously receives, SC, GA, Florida X2, Bama X2 and now Mizzou this year. It is year 3 and the same problems on the road are not fixed,!
#fahrJosh?

Nico is going to be working behind a completely rebuilt O-line. Or haven't you noticed that every one of them is a senior?
Most of them have COVID years and let’s be honest, very few will get drafted. And if a bunch leave, AP has stated the staff will look to the portal for 3-5 OL guys. Why do you think a rebuilt OL is a bad thing?

Yall stupid motherfeckers give UT a bad name

UT HAD THE NUMBER 21 DEFENSE IN THE COUNTRY HEADED INTO
LAST NIGHTS GAME. 10 GAMES INTO THE SEASON.

JOE SHEIT THE BED AGAIN AND THREW A PICK6....FUMBLED THE BALL AWAY, WRIGHT FU MBLED THE BALL AWAY ... AND YET THE DEFENSE GAVE UP 28 POINTS? 29? JOE GAVE UP THE OTHER 7 BY HIMSELF, ACTUALLY 14 IF YOU COUNT THE DUMB FUMBLE.

FAHR BANKS!!! FAHR BANKS!!!! YOU IGNORANT BASTARDS SHOULD WAIT TIL YOURE SOBER TO OPEN YOUR CROW EATERS.

This fanbase is so embarrassing sometimes. The defense is so improved that Stevie Wonder is wondering how we have the no1 rushing defense in the SEC....

If you can’t see how bad this defense was against Missouri then you need your eyes checked.

IMO this wasn't scheme as much as players getting out of position. You have to fight across their blocks when a kid can run like their QB. It’s pass rush discipline that broke down.

It’s fundamental to collapse the center on a running QB. When we stayed true we got him. When we faltered he ran for big plays.

Scheme wise I’d agree that a spy would have been wise. I question if we had the depth to make it effective.

We have quite a few of 4 star linemen who are freshman and sophomores who have size just as big, if not bigger, as the starters we have.

The lack of the experience is the only concern with them next year. That is literally the only concern.

People acting like we have zilch on the depth chart to replace these guys graduating are foolish. We have talent on the roster.

The 23 and 24 classes are loaded.

These dumbazz Negas arguing from a position of perpetual ignorance are the disgusting underbelly of our fanbase. Waste of time IMO

That was one question Burris and Crompton had on rattle & snap, is the coaching staff favoring veteran players over younger talent?

If so, this actually helps the younger players as well as the next 2 seasons. Just like Nico...the understudies are getting a full year in UTs weight program/world class nutrition....get to practice as the 2s running the same plays and alignments vs our offense for a year...get coaches for a year among the best on Earth (look what it did for our Dlinemen) and learning our playbooks inside and out AS WELL as honing their personal crafts such as linemen technique, route running, blocking schemes from linemen to RBs to WR on running plays....you name it .

Theres a reason that in the Majors days and before, the underclassmen NEVER saw the field. It was so by the time they finally did....they were 10-20% BIGGER....faster....smarter...and knew the playbook and their assignment/responsibility like they knew their own names. They were MEN.

THIS is a bridge year. Everyone who researched the team knew that. Qe lost our QB and top 2 WRs in the first 3 rounds of the NFL draft. Also our most important Olinemen Wright as the no10 pick in the 1st round...among others. This was a bridge year to another BIG couple years ahead. Next season we will be VERY good as long as we land a couple good Olinemen in the portal. The 24 team has a shot at making the playoffs next season as 1 of 12 teams. The 25 team!!??!! We have a playoff team and a legit shot to win it all. Seriously. Look at the roster. Unless we have catastrophic injuries to our best players....we should be top10 maybe top5 preseason in 25 and have a good chance at winning the playoffs.

The future is so bright at UT we gotta wear shades. You ignorant NegaVols should really find another team to cry about. CjH bout to lead us to the Promised Land. Lol

Good post. It brings up a question I’ve not thought about in a long time. Does being a backup allow players to pack on more muscle during the season? If you play a lot, you’re going to get dinged up. That hinders weight training. But I don’t know if teams do much heavy lifting during the season

Every realistic person knew we needed to score 30-40 to win. Offense was the biggest concern in this one. Not saying we shouldn't look around at defensive coaches but you can't ignore the offense. You can't just assume the offense is going to be great going forward. We have had multiple crap games offense every year. Won't get where we want to be without fixing that

Heupel's approach seems to be more like the old Oklahoma way of just out score the other team and not worry about defense. That approach will not lead to championship football. You can have success but not championships especially in this league.

MacDonald calls the pre snap reads and Herring reads the qb and blocking keys. MacDonald was out, and Mizzou just followed the Florida playbook and switched their motion and fakes. Herring bit more than ten times. It was terrible to watch.
