jim tressel, pete carrol, bobby bowden, bob stoops, coker and sadly even mack brown come to mind as coaches who have been more successful... Richt is going to pass by Fulmer in BCS bowls if he hasn't already.

Program > Fulmer

Not the other way around.
Don't you realize that UT would win no more than 4 games a season with any other coach? TCHFCATUTK is the only reason we haven't followed ETSU's lead and dropped football. In fact, I don't think UT ever won a game before TCHFCATUTK became the head coach.

Did you know that TCHFCATUTK has the best winning % of coaches with 10 or more years experience, lives in Maryville, has an acre or more of land, and has 6 letters in his last name?

Why would you fire that?!

Mack Brown, and Pete carrol I can agree, to a point. Bowden where is that program this year? And Miami will run Coker off as soon as the season is over. Stoops he is in a conference which has 4 teams that can compete, and same goes for Tressel.
The SEC is by far the toughest week in and week out for a coach.

names and records?
Convince me
You're a Fulmerite, you're immune to logic. The question relates to who would win more at UT, that by its nature requires dealing in hypotheticals. However, I'll play your game.
1. Bob Stoops
2. Pete Carroll
3. Mack Brown
4. Jim Tressell
5. Lloyd Carr
6. Butch Davis
7. Mike Leach
8. Tommy Tuberville
9. Mark Richt
10. Dennis Erickson
11. Urban Meyer
12. Kirk Ferentz
13. Barry Alvarez
14. Steve Spurrier
15. Nick Saban

There are about 10 others that come to mind, but that gets me to the number I stated.

if i could leave this message blank I would, but it won't let me. good job hat, you summed up everything that needs to be known.

Keep things in perspective here people. Look at the season as a whole.

Folks, did anyone here honestly believe going into this season that we were going to compete for the SEC/National Championship? If memory serves, expectations were pretty low among the orange nation.

If we win out and go to a bowl game and win, we're sitting at 10-3 for the season with a bowl victory. Now folks, I don't know about you but I think that's pretty respectable and it would certainly be beyond what I expected out of this team this year.

Whether it be from early graduates, injuries, or lack of depth, we just haven't had the horses to beat the upper echelon of teams this year. We are a good team which has played with a lot of heart all year. We're just not a great team. We will get there eventually.

Plus folks, you're just going to have to accept the fact that there is more parity in college football (especially the SEC) than ever before. How does Arizona beat California? How does Vanderbilt and Kentucky beat Georgia in the same year? How does Rutgers beat Louisville? The years of dominance in college football are over folks.

I didn't expect a bowl game, but I didn't expect 8 years of mediocrity and a team THAT WASN'T PREPARED AT ALL saturday... i've supported fulmer and chavis for a long long time... but our D, no matter how banged up wouldn't have stopped Maryville on Saturday, no offense to McFadden he is a Heisman-worth player

No I am not a Fulmerite. I have known him from high school years but I don't agree with everything he has done with the program. Yes you will hear me from time to time yell about what he has done, but I stand by what I said. It isn't time to go pulling a plug. Let’s remember an old quite which said. Sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you do not know. Now until we know there is someone who will come in and win National Titles 3 out of ever 5 years we have what we have. The reason I say 3 out of every 5 is because some on this board would not be satisfied even with that. So from you list above who has done that?

Not sure how Hat feels about the following, but I'll add them for my own opinion:

Tom O'Brian
Frank Beamer
Pat Hill

1. Expectations were only low among the Fulmerites who allowed their standards to be dumbed down by the garbage product put on the field last year.
2. We don't have the horses because we haven't recruited them. I believe, unless something has changed, recruiting is still within the coaching staff's resopsibilities.
3. Arizona beat Cal for a simple reason, one I have consistenly been mentioning since May. Cal is a fraud.

Look at the program as a whole. Do we consistently win more games than we lose and go to a bowl game year in and year out? Yes. Do we go to the SEC championship on a fairly regular basis? I think so. Have we not been in the hunt for a national championship on several occassions over the last 15 years and won one? Yes.

Then stop crying! Fulmer and company has consistently had a successful program at Tennessee year in and year out since he's been there.

The reason I say 3 out of every 5 is because some on this board would not be satisfied even with that.

I see a lot of people who say this when they defend Fulmer, and I'm sick of it. I urge anyone to try and find a post in the last 2 years where ANYONE has said we should compete and win a NC 3 out of every 5 years, 1 every year, or 1 every 5 years.

What we want is a dadgum SEC Title AT LEAST every 8 years. It isn't that much to ask, is it?

At this point, I would simply like a coach who wins more than 0 conference titles in 8 years. How many of the guys on my list have done that?

Tennessee has been in realistic contention for a National Title exactly 3 times under TCHFCATUTK. '98,'99, AND '01. That's it. 3 times in 14 years, that's nothing special.

It's a LOT to ask! You really have no clue how difficult it is to win in the SEC do you? You're still thinking it's the 1980's or 1998. It's a new era. EVERY SINGLE TEAM in the SEC can beat any other SEC team on any given saturday. Kentucky and Vandy beat Georgia this year. Georgia spanked Auburn. We spanked Georgia. South Carolina almost beat Florida. Georgia almost beat florida. Auburn beat Florida.

It's not about lowering standards. It's about reality.

Quit placing such high standards on TCHFCATUTK. He's a nice guy, has children, and likes seafood. Isn't that enough for you?

You forgot 97 when we won the SEC and played Nebraska. So 4 times in 14 of being in serious national championship contention. Yes I think that's pretty darn good!

You are an example of the type of UT fan who is getting exactly the program you deserve. Expect mediocrity, get mediocrity. Enjoy Tampa/Atlanta/Nashville/Shreveport or what other garbage bowl we play in in. It's exactly where we should be with fans like you.

Well in 9 years we have played for 4 and won 2 of them that is 40% competing and 20% winning. In that time Auburn has been in 3 and won 1. Fla has been in 1 and won 0, Georgia 3 and won 2 LSU 3 and won 2, Alabama 1 and 1 and Arkansas 1 and 0. So we have been to more and have 2 wins the same as many as ga. and LSU. Seems to me those other schools better run their staff off as well.

How many of the last eight will we have won in the last eight years at the end of the season? In three years, you guys will be saying we've won 2 in the last 11. It's amazing how a coach can survive off two seasons almost a decade ago. Our fans are getting exactly what they deserve. We are now what Georgia was in the mid '90s. Irrelevant.

A) I'm going to pull out my trusted and annoying 1 liner that everyone hates. I know more about football than you. Therefore, yes, I know how hard it is to win the SEC Championship.

B) How many SEC teams have won ONE SECCG since our last one in 1998? FIVE! Including TWO teams doing it TWICE! There is no reason why Tennessee has gone 0-for over 8 years.

C) Don't insinuate someone doesn't know something until you learn about that person. Don't underestimate the collective knowledge we all have here.
