First black stripe is off!

College football is full of things like this and it's part of the fun imo. Some like it while some don't. To turn it into some name-calling blame game is beyond absurd

Aaaah did he really? I'm sure he was the very, very first coach to ever, ever do that sort of thing. Being the genius he is and all. God forbid that this has happened at other institutions before Urban. Him being the Messiah and all.

Who cares if he did it there, too. It's a new facet of our team and even though Slurpan Cryer did it in Florida, its a good way to build camaraderie and set goals for any young player.

You deserve to get your orange stripe just for this... good stuff. :good!:

Word. The tactic not only gives the new players something to work for, it makes the older players invested in the newcomers. It gives them ownership of the team. So the stripes help team chemistry for the entire team. Smart move IMO

Yes, freshmen only. They have to earn the Orange stripe. Once they have, their mentor removes the stripe and it's replaced with an Orange one.

I'm sure someone pointed this out before, but I didn't read through all the posts. It's actually all newcomers, not just freshmen.

Cam Sutton is going to be a beast for us the next 3-4 seasons...cb prospects in 14 and 15 are going to have to wait for starts at his spot IMO :aggressive:

when I was in Marine corps. boot camp at Paris Island,we had to earn the privlege to unbutton the top- buttona on our uniform. That ment we had earned the wright to be a Marine boot.Guys worked their ass off for that privledge,it seperated them from the rest. It created competitio.n

If he wins, this will look really smart. If he loses, it will look like a goofy orange ceramic dog

Not much could look as goofy as an orange ceramic dog-- unless it was a pot of bamboo that you hauled down to the field and watered daily. Personally, I think we need to dig up that staff that Coach Fulmer had in the '98 season as he was leading the way to the Promised land of the National Championship:)

I can see this being very motivating for the new faces on the team each year. It would just really suck being the last player to get the stripe removed. Coach Jones needs to be careful how he handles the situation, its kind of like playing with fire. Being last could be a good thing for any particular player because surely it would make them work that much harder. At the same time though it could be bad thing, being last could really be damaging and get into a players head and effect him badly.
