First team rankings are out

I can understand not liking Dooley as a decision but now that he has the job I don't understand why a handful of guys on the forum feel its their job to be as negative as possible about him.

The same guys posts in threads joking about everyone praising Dooley but they don't understand that they are doing the exact opposite by posting all things negative. What is the difference?

I saw the rankings on another SEC site, and they weren't posted here. I posted them, my bad. Obviously, it's not a secret I'm not a fan of Dooley, but I've given him due when something positive has happened. I really don't know why you are arguing with me, it's as if you're trying to convince me I'm not a fan.

It's great you give credit when something positive has happened, but what exactly has he done wrong?

I don't see why this is any surprise. Its a non-story really. First - Dooley and Co. are just getting some momentum going and some of their focus is still filling immediate needs for this season (see Darr, Jackson, et al). Second - Look at the shear numbers Texas has 22 commits, OK, Stanford, OH St. Bama are about 15 +...we have 7 commits. Third - you know they run their ratings based on "star" factor and we know that as the season goes on, these kids go to camps, and perform in the season, those Star ratings change.

So its July, take a few deep breaths (& maybe a valium) and relax

Are we really that bad of a team to be ranked 18 spots below Kentucky? That doesn't seem right. What do you all think?

They have twice as many commits as we have, and they have a 5.8 four star. Smith should be a 5.8, so should Posey, and if we get Martin, we'll jump them.

We're fine. If people look at the quality prospects that we are in on. All Dooley has to do is show the program is headed in the right direction on the field and we will easily be in the top fifteen this year. Top ten is going to be difficult though. We have a lot of kids that are really interested in the Vols but want to make sure there is stability before they jump on board given the train wreck that was the Lane Kiffin era.

If we finish in the top 15 in recruiting, I will be thrilled. Especially considering the amount of line players we are taking. The high star ratings are reserved for skill positions.

Just want to say that the rankings are absolutely retarded. They value certain positions head and shoulders above others. Remember USC grabbing the #1-5 RBs for a good 3 years. They scored #1 recruiting classes even though the rest of the class didn't deserve the ranking.

1. I spend my money on the football and basketball programs. I am a season ticket holder in both sports and I want both programs to succeed in the long run.
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
4. Tennessee.

You got my vote, sounds like a fan to me. As far as hating or not hating Dooley, I could really give a rat's arse.

I like him, I think he's going to be good for the integrity and character of the program.

As far as his coaching is concerned, we will see. Hopefully with the team of good coaches he has wrangled up, we will have several great seasons with him.

High stars are not reserved just for the skill positions at all. Looking back over the last 15 years of the final NRA/Rivals rankings in at least 7 of those years there were more lineman/linebackers in the Final Top 100 than skill position players. (ATH/ DB / WR / QB / HB)

A Top 15 class this year would be a great class considering the circumstances. A Top 10 class would be a minor miracle.

Look at it this way. We have a lot more room to move up than the guys at the top. :)

If rankings are so terrible then why are the teams winning the national titles (Texas 05, Florida 06, LSU 07, Florida 08, Alabama 09) always the ones bringing in the Top 5-10 classes consistently?

Alright guys, I'll try to be less negative over the next few weeks. It's made the site more difficult for everyone. It doesn't change my stance on Dooley, but I'll try not to be as vocal about it. I realize some people are just along for the ride and fun of being a fan. I, like all of you hope he succeeds in the future. The last week has certainly been a positive first step.:hi:

slow clap
