'21 FL DT Marquis Robinson (Mizzou commit)

Having read a few interviews with transfers, I think the offense we run makes this defense super undesirable to play in. I still believe in our defensive staff and their recruiting abilities, I just think it's a hard sell for transfers who are looking for instant success to make their NFL dreams come true.

I am not questioning what you read. However, I don't understand the logic that a fast paced offense is inherently bad for a defensive player. Do they think that they want to be in a defense where they play less? When I played (high school, nothing special), I wanted to be on the field every second. Don't think we want a player who might think that they would rather not play defense on a team that scores too fast.

This…I would think average DC’s might reconsider but players could care less

Agree and also it is advantageous to play D with a lead too, right? The playbook opens up.

I'm thinking of the Spurrier teams at UF. His O's scored early and quickly. The D was on the field a good bit. But they also had the opportunity to play loose knowing if they gave up points their O could pick them up.

RF is becoming less enjoyful these days with all the trolls showing up all the time.

Not sure if this is directed towards me due to my relative negativity in this thread regarding the staff's performance in the portal (so far, this cycle), but I can assure you I am the furthest thing from a troll.

If the rumors about scholarship limits are true, they were willing to take certain players under certain conditions, but didn't consider it to be a big issue of they were unable to get them. If we are still having portal issues after Spring ball, then maybe the concern has merit. For now, there are good reasons to believe it isn't an issue.

After his TN visit this guy said Missouri was out. He even bad mouthed their facilities.

He said he was down to TN and Ohio St
TN wanted him for spring semester
Ohio St wanted him to wait until after Spring

He waited. Then a couple weeks later he is going to Missouri

Doesn’t take a genius to figure out Ohio St dropped him and TN didn’t want him after he waited. Kid got burned listening to Ohio St.

That's one way to spin it. But why wouldn't UT want him after he waited? Again, he's a former 4-star prospect with a great offer list who RG recruited to Auburn. Who we brought in on an OV and wanted to enroll immediately. I find it hard to believe that with a need at DL and upwards of 5 spots in the fall we decided that we're going to be able to do better.

Look, Heupel and the staff did an incredible job with the 2022 class and are setting themselves to do even better in 2023. That doesn't change the fact that we've whiffed on Verse, Neyor, and Robinson just to name the guys we got to campus (i.e., beyond guys like the NW Safety who went to Notre Dame or the Wake Forest RB Beal-Smith who went to SoCar, both of whom it was reported we tried for). We've signed one transfer, an OL that I am high on for the future who not someone who projects as an instant contributor in this vital upcoming season.

Could we do well in the portal post-Spring? Hell yeah, we did last year. And I damn sure hope we do, because the roster and the schedule set up for a potential breakthrough season if we can plug a few holes via the portal.

If the above sounds negative or like a troll I don't know what to tell you. thosearethefacts.gif my friends...

Based on what I've gathered, the staff wanted him to get work in the spring, create more depth for spring ball and acclimate to what we're doing, he waited on OSU and now can't enroll with an SEC team till after spring because of SEC transfer rules, soooo: the staff must think they have bigger fish to catch after spring so now he's ending up at Mizzou where he was always been a take for them

Could be, and if so I hope the staff is right and we get an even better prospect.

As long as he entered the portal before 1 Feb he can transfer within the SEC so that doesn’t apply

It's naive to at least not be a lil concerned with all the defensive transfers we've brought in,only to watch them choose someone else that's inferior to us.I can't make much sense of it,but I ain't worried let's say that,I got enuff sh*t in life to worry about lol.Its obvious they were interested and just came up short, but if this continues next year etc maybe hit the panic button, but it's really odd if u think about it to miss on all these transfers, esp Defense.Verse and Neyor just sat a sour taste in folks mouths I think and it's kinda spiraled from there

If you understand what’s going with us it’s not naive at all.

I was pretty sure I had heard they had to transfer before last day of enrollment to another SEC school which I believe was Jan. 19? Same would have applied to the WR from Wyoming if he had stuck? now any transfer will have to wait till after spring to to come as transfer to UT unless I missed something

In order to enroll for the spring he had to enroll before the drop/add date for whatever school he wanted to enroll in. He can still be eligible to enroll at any SEC school after the spring semester and be eligible this fall. That is with the caveat that's he meets the academic requirements for eligibility.

I think we want a D-lineman that can contribute this year and getting Robinson for the spring who have ensured that they would have done that.

Now they're opting to get a veteran plug and play guy after the spring like we had with Dajon Terry.

I hope it works out that way.

Idk how much of an impact he would've had year 1. He played in 1 game last year as a freshman. I get Auburn has more DL depth than us but he definitely wasn't guaranteed to come in and make an immediate impact here

Considering our young DL depth is *very* thin in terms of numbers signed over the last 2-3 classes (even including Terry from the portal) landing Robinson would've been big for the future of the DL moreso than any immediate impact he might have had.

Very thin? We have like 5 guys who can play

I mean like immediate impact depth wise. A rotational guy. If we thought he wouldn't make an impact this season whether he transferred to us before or after spring then why would it matter when he got here?
