'21 FL DT Marquis Robinson (Mizzou commit)

And Ohio St probably won’t be available then either. I’d move on too. Kid is going to miss critical year 2 spring development. You’d prefer he just stay at Auburn and reenter portal later so he can get training and practice time. Extremely poor advice given to this kid
Seriously.

why the hell wouldn't it be a no brainer to just go join the position coach you thought you were going to have in the exact same league? That position coach being Rodney Garner.

Instead of resuming his development with the best D-line coach in the SEC you waste the spring waiting to maybe go somewhere? Crazy. Him going through spring practice is his fastest way to get on the field.

To my knowledge, Robinson hasn't said anything publicly since I spoke with him about a week ago. But he didn't enroll at Tennessee this week, and everyone I've spoken with is under the impression that he just decided to hold off and enroll somewhere after the spring semester. I would say the odds of him ending up with the Vols at least have taken a hit as a result of that decision.

It's also worth noting that a possible coaching change at Auburn could further complicate his decision. Could he be more open to staying at Auburn under a new coaching staff? I don't know how he would feel about that, but it's an interesting possibility that still could be on the table, in theory.

So other then the time when we signed all our players and finished in the top 15?

Both can be true (he did mention the early signing period). Hard to call our efforts in the portal *so far* anything other than a failure. Regardless of scholarship limitations that might’ve precluded us from taking a large number of transfers before May, the fact remains that we whiffed on every single target other than Mincey, and that’s despite getting all of Verse, Neyor and Robinson (who chose a crap Mizzou program ahead of us, apparently) on campus. I’m hopeful we can make up for that with some bigtime adds in May, but so far it’s been bad in that space.

That said I’m super bullish on the 2023 class and think it could push hard for the Top 5-10.

Glad we decided to keep this scholarship for the spring when better players will come out
Hopefully some will come out. But, we're limited on SEC players we can take from the portal and have play next year. If they weren't in the portal by February 1st, they do us no good for next season. As for the rest of the NCAA, they have to be in by May 1st to be eligible to play next season. Any later than that and they sit out next season. The one-time transfer rule will not apply.

We also hosted a visit from Tashawn Manning, but he chose KY.

Was wondering where we finished after the late signing period. 247 composite rankings put us at 17th, just behind the gators. Sucks that Napier was able to bring them from last in the SEC to just above us. JMO, but I think some home-cooking must have been involved because I think overall, our class is better.

Has to be the ESPN rankings that is dropping our ranking. All of the other services has us above UF.

Not sure. I just know I like our recruiting class better. But Florida has done well in the portal where, thus far, we have not. Hoping to see all those Springtime transfers people keep mentioning.

We will be able to fill the roster to the 85 limit by the summer so I assume we will do so...for sure we will fill that with transfers. How knows how good they'll be.

It would be pointless to take transfers that aren't good. We already know we can't take any SEC guys unless they're currently in the portal. Hopefully we'll see some talent from outside the SEC hit the portal by May 1st.

I mean there are plenty of guys outside the SEC that are good and can help us, I just don't know how many real studs would leave after spring practice. Although If you're really good somewhere why leave? So it almost seems like anyone we get would have to be on potential...unless we got dirty and tampered with guys on other rosters.

I think we’ll be surprised how many true freshman “studs” become available after buyer’s remorse (otherwise known as Spring practice) sets in. Not to mention high end options who gave it a year or so and drop on a loaded roster.
