'19 FL OL Chris Akporoghene (Tennessee signee)

Akporoghene is very raw on fundamentals ... technique is very bad ..... hopefully he can learn .. he looks the part ... needs to get tougher and meaner ...

- Callahan

It’s funny that Callahan has such high praise...going so far as to call him a standout at a program like IMG...and yet 247 has him rated considerably lower than the other sites...in fact he is barely a 3* according to them

They bumped him to an 86 for like an hour then bumped it back down. Wonder if it was a glitch they never noticed

I just want to know if he is a good football player
Gaining good weight means absolutely nothing to me, can he play and help us win football games?

He has no say in ratings

Considering he didn't play football at all until his freshman year of high school at King's Academy but was good enough in two year's time to transfer to IMG and was rated as highly as a four-star by Rivals, I think he'll turn out fine.

Going to be great player for the Vols. He has been all Vol since committing. strength and conditioning getting him to SEC OL size.Coach Friend is a top OL coach to get the technique polished. He will be a corner stone on the OL in the years to come.

And I believe that. Coming in the strongest means something. I know some will not understand that. But it is essential.

I believe we are trending towards are tendency of forgetting football and track and field are different. It is obvious he is gifted with tremendous physical talents. Size and strength appear to be elite. However, that does not immediately equate to an elite football player. I am not saying he will not become one. I certainly hope he does. But it is unlikely to happen as quickly as some of you are expecting. He has very limited football experience and once they take the field (not just the weight room) his head will most certainly be swimming trying to create new habits to create proper technique and trying to learn all the nuances of the playbook.

Lol at folks that think he cant play. Do they even know about the IMG school he started at. Been playing football since a freshman. Not like he just started playing the game.
How the hell do you translate that to "he can't play" lol. I guarantee you he needs lots of work on his technique and leverage. Even at IMG, the type of physcial talent he has is enough to be productive in high school. College, esp the SEC, is a WHOLE 'NOTHER ballgame.

You are not the only one implying that he cant play with good technique. Just read this one page. Buddy

OG is one of the easiest positions to learn technique wise. If he’s got the physical tools and aggression, he will play early. His biggest concern will be recognizing who to block when the defense stunts. Carvin had that problem last year. He was either slow to react or just simply missed.

He is very similar to Carvin in terms of size and strength. And Carvin struggled mightily last season with the mental side of the game. But we somehow know that this kid will be a stud immediately?

How do you say he is similar in strength? Carvin had a lot of baby fat coming in? It’s been stated that Chris would be one of the strongest guys on the team day one.

Carvin was very impressive physically as soon as he arrived on campus.
Not saying he wasn’t but he wasn’t as physically gifted as Akporoghene. Dude came in already with low body fat but I agree that he isn’t technically as far as Carvin was.

So if he’s already physically stronger than the upperclassmen we currently have on the roster, you think they’re waves more fundamentally schooled than him? Insurmountable lead?

The good news is that you don’t have to worry about losing any time trying to shed bad weight and the coaches can immediately go into teaching the proper technique and leverage. Will he be able to pick it up fast who knows but physically he is ready.

Maybe “stud” is too greedy with our recent history...how about functionally ADEQUATE?
