I think Salter’s gone. So, Shea Patterson transferring into Michigan the same year he was their QB in the recruiting cycle lead to the first two years of not seeing the field much (4 games each year) and the Little 10 only played a 6 game season in 2020 which was a weird year for everyone, where Cade McNamara challenged him for playing time late in the year. I'm not crowing Milton the answer at QB, just pointing out that the knee jerk reaction to JG is not quite accurate. JG was given opportunity after opportunity to succeed (or not based on @HankHill breakdown of the fact that the OC was asking him to do things outside of his skill set), this guy has been sitting waiting his turn behind a veteran transfer and didn't look horrible in game action last season.
I think he'll be the guy based on the tenor of the discussion surrounding the other QB's on the roster, and Coach Hype's not being impressed with them. I also think HB and BM may be transfer portal bound with this latest course of action. I'd say Milton/Hooker/Salter is your QB room come fall. JMO.
This board is in a perpetual state of "freakout". I have to say, it's amusing to watch....
I think Bailey is the odd man out in my opinion. Just doesn’t fit Heupel’s system.Heupel is anticipating at least one QB transferring after the spring (likely Maurer or Bailey...depending on who is behind) and Salter isn't a lock to get back on the team or stick around long even if he makes it back. They need bodies at the position and taking a guy with experience and a solid upside is a smart move.
Salter isn't going anywhere, but he needs time to mature before he can lead a team. A QB has to lead by example more so than any other position. We have physically gifted QB's, but I don't know if any of them have the intangibles that Heupel is looking for. Plus, if someone does transfer after the spring, it doesn't give us many options this fall of injury occurs. Like I said, Salter isn't ready from a maturity standpoint.Heupel is anticipating at least one QB transferring after the spring (likely Maurer or Bailey...depending on who is behind) and Salter isn't a lock to get back on the team or stick around long even if he makes it back. Oh don’t get me wrong. JG brought most of it on himself as to why he was so up and down. My stance on the offense is that we continually asked him to do things that we all knew he couldn’t do. If he’s holding the ball too long and not coming off his reads fast enough... why would you not cut the field in half for him? Hell the patriots did that for Brady when Daboll was the OC. They didn’t want him scanning the whole field. JG will probably have a good year at WSU Bc they will run a lot of short quick throws, and limit his thinking.
