'18 FL QB Joe Milton (Tennessee commit)

So neither Bailey, Shrout nor Maurer could beat out JG. Many on VN said it was just because Pruitt was dumb and was in love with him.

Now we have a brand new coaching staff. No gump or Weinke. We have a transfer QB from VT that has experience with decent stats. We have a veteran QB in Maurer. A former 5* QB from the state of Georgia who is top 5 all time in the state. And yet neither of them can separate themselves enough for this staff to feel confident.

Now we have another transfer QB whose best season saw him complete 56% for 1,077 yards 4TDs and 4 INTs.

Clearly we are headed in the right direction. Good grief.
Why do you assume neither have separated themselves at all? Are you in contact with the staf? Surely it's not from listening to AP and the rest of those prize winning "journalists"......

Brand new staff, right?

How many practices?

How many games?

You serious bitching that a qb hasn't separated themselves yet?

Heupel himself said before spring that a qb would not separate from the others during spring ball.

Now, oh lawd! We got a transfer! They all suck!!!

I swear. People are the worst.

It’s that damn Netflix you hawk! Errybody wants to binge it before it’s even produced! 🤬

LOL... what does the one have to do with the other? Hooker transferred in before Heupel had even started looking at what he had. Your conclusion based on those premises is what makes no sense.

It isn't "obvious" anywhere but in your imagination. There are currently 3 talented guys competing. There's a 4th talented guy now coming in. I suspect Bailey leaves just because this system may not be best for him.... but competition is GOOD. It most definitely does NOT mean everyone sucks who is involved in the competition.

How many other big time D1 programs bring in / transfer QBs in the same season? And yes it is obvious. If we truly had 3 talented D1 QBs competing then we wouldn’t need another transfer QB.

Did you see LSU bring in another transfer QB to compete with Burrow? How about UGA when they brought in Daniels?

The fact that Milton is coming in to compete says a lot about our QB situation. Regardless of what you want to think.

Yeah we have 3 talented QBs competing right? But we need a 4th. Yes I very well could be overreacting. But if you don’t mind could you provide us with a list of all the schools in the SEC that has brought in 2 transfer QBs in the same class while having 3 other QBs? Thanks.

This the first QB that Heupel has brought in.

Well. How many have the situation UT has? Heupel could have said "I'll just pick from the ones Pruitt left"... but that would have been stupid whether one or all had D1 talent.

And again... more than likely they expect someone and maybe two to leave.

You truly don't think those two programs had recruited "D1 QBs"? Burrow wasn't even that well thought of. He was buried at tOSU. They were brought in to compete... and did.

No. It doesn't or at least not the conclusion you are drawing. We can't read Heupel's mind... but he may think he's got one guy but needs two or two and needs 3. He may know or believe that one or 2 aren't going to make it.

Milton isn't walking in the starter. Far from it. Watch some of his game video. He may not even be an upgrade over the 3 who've been fighting it out.

Yes I very well could be overreacting. .
You are. And not necessarily because you are certain to be "wrong" in the end... but because you're WAY ahead of the facts. You've filled gaps of information with speculation and have answered your own rhetorical questions in a way that supports your conclusion.... but IS NOT the only reasonable answer.

It is MORE reasonable that they expect one or 2 guys to leave and don't want a QB room made up of 2 scholarship players.

UGA already had Newman.

We shall see. If we have a QB or 2 transfer then maybe your argument holds water. At the moment you think it’s not a big deal that we are bringing in another transfer QB. I think it is. Hopefully you are right and I am wrong.

Not so fast. This could be because somebody HAS separated themselves somewhat, and you want to account for transfers and have a capable backup up to speed before the fall.

Luckily the Spring game is this week. Then we will know for sure what's going on.
Regardless JG sucked and Bailey and Maurer showed they were better than him during games.

I think it is a big deal mostly because Heupel didn't wait for bad things to happen to him. Nice to have a guy thinking about contingencies rather than wringing his hands after the fact. He has roster space IIRC. Wasn't there some total roster allowance because of Covid? They could carry 5 this year... let them compete... and then let transfers take care of the rest.

They flashed potential that JG never showed. Pruitt was so committed to a hyper conservative style of play that it meant more to him that a guy not commit mistakes in practice than it did for a guy to make plays.

IMHO... Bailey might have been the ideal guy to run that "system". He "sees" and reacts better than JG but is still a pretty low risk/low reward QB. Maurer was never going to be Pruitt's guy.

Yeah. He seems to have been beating this drum for a while. IMHO... it has a lot to do with his personal disappointment that things are pointing away from Bailey. His mentality seems to be if HB can't win the position then they all must suck.

One would think bjm has the inside scoop on this kid coming from Michigan and coaching against him daily.
I saw their first game where he was killing it with his arm and legs, thinking he is a “pro style “ that’s 10 times the runner of our “dual threat “ .
Didn’t do much after that game though.
