'18 FL QB Joe Milton (Tennessee commit)

Hell if you ask me aint a dam person in TN can judge a quarterback anymore-Just look at the loads of kids that left and went on to have success at other programs.Theres a few in the pros i wouldn't have thought would throw another pass in college much less the NFL.

Our QBs on campus must be absolutely horrible.
Not being able to clearly beat out JG was an indicator of this, though I didn't really believe it considering what a moran Beldar was until the guys at 247 started saying we needed to look to the Portal after they saw the scrimmage Saturday before last.

1. Joe Milton is a Power Five quarterback.

Farrell’s take: FICTION. It’s time for Milton, who has entered the transfer portal, to take a step down – perhaps a big one. Milton has always had a huge arm, but accuracy was the question coming out of high school and he was rated high out of high school because of his ceiling as he didn’t put up great numbers. Now that Michigan has given him a shot and it failed, he should look for a Group of Five or FCS team in the Southeast if he wants to play quarterback. Michigan took a shot on his potential and it didn’t work. Other Power Five teams won’t do the same.

Gorney’s take: FACT. We have to go back about a decade, if not longer, to find a Michigan quarterback who really excelled and lived up to expectations. So, in part, this is Milton’s fault but coach Jim Harbaugh and even those before him did not exactly develop elite players at that position. The combination of Milton’s size, arm strength and mobility make him a special player, so if he can work on his accuracy and making better decisions then he can definitely play Power Five football. There are a lot of coaches who maximize the abilities quarterbacks have. That did not happen for Milton at Michigan, but it could somewhere else in a major conference.

Sounds just like JG. Apparently, didn’t put up great numbers in HS either. Lol

According to Maxpreps (could be wrong)

Career Varsity Games 29.

47%
35 TDS
19 INTS
137 passing yards a game
3975 passing yards

Doesn’t seem like a Michigan problem to me.

NegaVols out in full force today. Does anyone have some BVS meds??

Fresh out.

That's not a logical conclusion.

It is FAR more reasonable to think that Heupel wants another competitive QB in the room with 1 or 2 likely to be gone soon. At least one and probably two among Bailey, Salter, and Maurer will probably leave once they see where they stand after Spring. Even Hooker could leave under the new rule if he thinks he won't start.

Bringing this guy in doesn't mean the others suck either individually or as a group.

So neither Bailey, Shrout nor Maurer could beat out JG. Many on VN said it was just because Pruitt was dumb and was in love with him.

Now we have a brand new coaching staff. No gump or Weinke. We have a transfer QB from VT that has experience with decent stats. We have a veteran QB in Maurer. A former 5* QB from the state of Georgia who is top 5 all time in the state. And yet neither of them can separate themselves enough for this staff to feel confident.

Now we have another transfer QB whose best season saw him complete 56% for 1,077 yards 4TDs and 4 INTs.

Clearly we are headed in the right direction. Good grief.

If you wait for failure to happen before your solution? It’s too late. Roster builders have contingency plans BEFORE the contingency. I heard Swain say that Milton isn’t coming here to sit. Well neither did Chryst...or Hooker.

We already have 1 transfer QB on the roster. Your post makes no sense. It’s becoming obvious that we don’t have a true D1 QB on our roster.

LOL... what does the one have to do with the other? Hooker transferred in before Heupel had even started looking at what he had. Your conclusion based on those premises is what makes no sense.

It isn't "obvious" anywhere but in your imagination. There are currently 3 talented guys competing. There's a 4th talented guy now coming in. I suspect Bailey leaves just because this system may not be best for him.... but competition is GOOD. It most definitely does NOT mean everyone sucks who is involved in the competition.

EXACTLY. Maurer didn't come to sit. HB didn't come to sit. Salter didn't come to sit.

And the fact that 4 will either transfer or sit... doesn't mean they suck.

It may or may not, but it's not baseless considering the Tennessee guys at 247 said a couple of weeks ago after the first scrimmage that they didn't think the answer at quarterback was currently on our roster and that they thought the coaching staff would look to the Portal. This observation on their part turned out to be true, even though many here poo poo'd the observation when it was made. I think we only get better by getting this Milton guy, but I don't think it's "not logical" to conclude that everything is less than hunky dory with our current QB room. If the coaches felt great about the QB room they wouldn't waste a counter on this guy, they'd use it elsewhere, since we need help elsewhere, most notably at linebacker.

What comments from staff lead you to those conclusions? Not going to go overboard during a competition for the job. Let’s at least get by the spring game where we are still in a learning curve with all of them before we go all Xanax over their abilities. With Salter still unresolved and high potential one of the longer term young guys bolting if not in the lead additional insurance for next year seems the likely reason to add one now, more than raw desperation.
