I don’t know what’s up with Mullen. I admit that he was my first realistic choice the cycle we hired Pruitt. Mullen seems like a total oddball but he can coach. It’s like The Big Lebowski’s Jesus character, “That creep can roll.” He had unreal squads at MSU even though he’s a weirdo. So who knows if his recruiting will hold him back at UF or not since he still excelled at MSU and that’s nowhere near as independently attractive as UF (even though I loathe UF).

I'm giddy. Cause that's his record this year. Alabama, GA, and LSU are losses, and watch that game with us since we play them immediately after they play bama. Their defense is going to be bad, and our offense gonna be there.

It’s going to be interesting how much he changes his offense, they lost so much production from last years team and Jones isn’t close to the thrower Trask is. They’ve struggled to run the ball but that may be their best hope on offense. He’s a great X’s & O’s coach so it’s possible.

Their defense can only go up. They’re bringing almost everybody back and bring in some big time talent on that side of the ball. I know Dan Mullen is a proven offensive mind but they’ll probably have a big decline on offense. Lost a big chunk of their production and the guys they’re replacing them with are meh. Emory is trash. If their other guys in that room aren’t good they’ll struggle

The OL who picked UCF definitely did so because Mullen is such a creep.

My bet is that Anthony Richardson is the starter by the time they play us. He looked much better than Jones in the limited action he had last year.

He raised MSU, but he did it through development. His best QB’s were really not highly recruited. According to Rivals, I counted eight 4/5 star recruits that he got outside of the state of Mississippi in his 9 years. One was from Memphis, and two were QB’s that did nothing. Mississippi has decent talent for its size, and they have a very good Juco system. He couldn’t keep AJ Brown at Starkville High from going to Ole Miss.

When he was being considered at UT, I also went through his schedule year by year. I don’t deny that he excelled at a tough place, but he feasted on some weak scheduling early in his tenure. They played 4 cupcakes out of conference, and their permanent east game is UK. If you beat a Dooley-led UT team, or a terrible Houston Nutt Ole Miss team, or one other team, that’s 6 wins. The Dak years were special though.

Obviously, our development has been bad the last 10 years. But UT doesn’t have much talent within a 2 hour radius, and we have to recruit Nashville, Atlanta, and NC to be good. Nashville has gotten competitive. I just don’t think his recruiting (or lack of) would be a good fit at UT.

He had 1 year with Dak that he really killed it. Other years he won 7-9 games which I wouldn’t label as unreal.

Only thing is Todd Grantham is still their DC. I’m not real high on him. Gambles a lot.

People talk and the consensus is Mullen tried hard to get to NFL last yr and if he gets a shot he will jump to not deal with the new landscape of college football. He ain’t the only coach thinking that though. Work/Life balance in NFL starting is much better than the year round grind

You are right. Lots of coaches are looking to jump to NFL. NIL does not help
