'20 FL WR Malachi Wideman (Tennessee signee)

I think Pruit is doing a good job, but it SEEMS to me we can't land the big fish (5*'s?). We have 1. Bama has 4, UGA 4 , LSU 3, Floraduh 1. This is our competition.
We are not in the same boat as those other programs due to the way Butch botched this program with his personal vendetta. Our staff is not focused on star players at this point but trying to solidify a SEC roster so we can go get star players. We have already started beating the teams that we are supposed to beat. The next step is taking out the teams at the next level.

Where was the fact?
That we lose more in recruiting than we win. He is referring to the top players, which is true. We are not at that level as of yet for a reason. But that has nothing to do with a poster’s mentality.

Good post. Gotta walk before we run. I knew it was going to take a few recruiting classes to get us back to respectability.

Exactly. 5 stars want to play for championships and get maximum exposure. The want to win. They're obviously going to look at programs that are winning and playing for titles. Winning breeds success on the recruiting trail. We've had little of that for quite some time. Not sure how rational it is to expect UT to recruit against and beat teams like Bama, UGA, LSU, Ohio St, etc for these few 5 star players.

That is not what Is important..... what is important is that we get solid football players.... a few stars and limit our misses....worry about who we get and not who we don’t

Twenty to thirty years ago kids had a completely different mind set. They would have never gone to Alabama or Georgia to sit on a bench and wait their turn when there was a possibility of early playing time at another quality program.

People (poster above) will never understand that in order to recruit year after year with Bama, Georgia, LSU you have to win games. Plus the fact it’s much easier to recruit in Georgia and Louisiana because of the vast amounts of talent. Bama is in the playoffs virtually every year.....win consistently=draft picks=better chances with upper echelon talent.

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade here but I think you're underestimating Kiff in this kid's recruiting. First off, he is an excellent recruiter. Anyone who doubts that has forgotten the class he brought in here in his one year in a short period. Yeah he had a great recruiting staff behind him, but he's effective with the kids and talks their language. On top of that you're forgetting that he just spent a couple of years building relationships in Florida. The professionals talk about how important it is to build relationships with the HS coaches and he just spent two years down there doing a decent job with a small program. (It almost makes me gag to say that.)

Now personally I think the guy is human scum who doesn't even remotely understand the definition of integrity. But that's not what these 18 year old kids think about.

The one thing we've got going fo us is distance from Venice and home but there's not a whole lot of difference between Knoxville and Oxford.

Hopefully the kid listens to Pruitt and understands he's playing a position where we have an absolute need so he's going to see PT in his freshman year for a team on the rise versus one that is in a serious rebuild and recovering from NCAA penalties.

Finally, I see someone saying they want Ole Miss to be good and hurt Bama. That's the last thing you want unless you want to say goodbye to recruiting Memphis. That's the difference from being 1 1/2 hours from home and 5 hours from home for those Memphis kids. Mom can drive down, watch the game and be back home for bedtime. It's a hard enough sell already, a resurgent Ole Miss would be awful for us. (In reality there are 5 SEC schools closer to Memphis than Knoxville and LSU is about the same distance.) Go read the Memphis paper sometime, it talks about Ole Miss almost as much as UT.

Not really concerned about Memphis or "owning the state." That isn't to say we should ignore it, but Bama getting knocked back down opens up better rectuits in Middle Tennessee, GA, and Florida.

There is just about as much talent in Tennessee as in Louisiana. Believe it or not, we put out similar number of blue chips. We recruit pretty well in Georgia. We just signed the best QB in the country out of Georgia.

How do you figure? Pruitt went 5 for 5 on ESD, getting 5 new commitments and signing them all. Finishing the day in the Top 10 on Rivals. After starting 1-4 and most saying his career was toast. I'd have to disagree with your assessment.
Ahhhh, those pesky facts... No place for them here....

Stop making sense! That’s not allowed up in here.
It’s like everyone forgot where this staff had to start from. This rebuild was never going to be an easy one. Once we start to compete with the teams you mentioned on the field, we will fair better in recruiting against them for these upper echelon recruits.
