OK that's one opponent (about 4 times) in 20 years.

Florida never plays the likes of SCal, Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska, etc.

And Tennessee does? With the exception of Notre Dame, I don't see UT traveling to Norman, Columbus or any of the schools mentioned above

Our biggest, baddest, in-state rival isn't Vanderbilt...and we don't have to recruit nationally to contend for national championships. What UT's excuse?

Alabama | MrSEC

* While some say SEC representatives haven’t forgotten that FSU spurned the league in the early 1990s, we point out that FSU spurned the league in the early 1990s. Meaning the school had an invite to turn down in the first place. If Florida didn’t jump in the way 20 years ago, would Florida — and others jump in the way now? *
This is what most people remember.

ah good to know.

i only knew about them repeatedly trying to get membership somewhere in the range of...i need to find it again but i believe it was until or through the 70s (again; have to find it again before i give a timeframe)

um, actually, what UT has or is going to do in those regards is kind of why these guys were trying to (or felt some need to) call UF out on it...

besides UT's home and homes with Notre Dame, UT had home and homes recently with Cal, UCLA, Miami, and Oregon, and UT has them coming up with Oklahoma (in 2014 and 2015) and Nebraska (in 2016 and 2017)

i believe there was one set up with ohio state at some point, but i don't see it, one of the schools might have pulled out of that agreement

but yes, part of that is probably because UT does have to recruit a bit more nationally to (better) contend for national championships

We were scheduled to play OU & OSU around 2015 or so but with they new expansion I doubt it. We have tougher opponents to start the season. Look it up.

Ohio State was to be 2018-2019; as posted below that's due to their conference expansions, not ours (the big 10 - like every other big conference save the SEC - are moving to a 9 game schedule)

I'm not sure that would actually change anything with oklahoma though; as they've already been playing a 9 game schedule the last year (& plan on continuing such)

AND

Ok here it is:

Ohio State cancelled their 2018-2019 with us

Ohio State cancels 2018-19 series with Tennessee » GoVolsXtra

Tennessee's home-and-home football series with Ohio State set for 2018 and 2019 has been canceled because of a conference-expansion related scheduling conflict.

Ohio State requested to cancel the series because of the recent decision to expand the Big Ten conference schedule from eight to nine games starting in 2017. UT obliged, as the schools "may look at an option to play in future years," according to an Ohio State press release.

UT has yet to find a replacement for the Buckeyes on its 2018 and 2019 schedules.

The only time the Vols and Buckeyes ever faced each other was in the 1996 Citrus Bowl. UT defeated the Buckeyes, 20-14, to cap an 11-1 1995 season.

UT's future slate of games already announced currently includes: 2012 -- North Carolina State (Atlanta), Akron, Troy, Georgia State; 2013 -- at Oregon, South Alabama; 2014 -- at Oklahoma; 2015 -- Oklahoma, at Connecticut; 2016 -- at Nebraska, Connecticut; 2017 -- Nebraska.

yeah it was cancelled not due to the SEC expansion, but because the big 10 is going to a yearly 9 conference games in 2017

Is the OU game canceled too?

still on at this point;

as i edited in to the rest of the quoted post (OSU's cancellation came from a new 9 game sched) since OU's already played a 9 game conference schedule and hasn't cancelled yet because of it, i'm not sure anything will actually change with them

And we finish up with FSU every year instead of Kentucky...look that up.

UF playing FSU accomplishes the same result as UT playing UCLA, Notre Dame and and Oklahoma. Both teams are playing quality opponents while marketing their respective programs in areas where they recruit.

I don't know....don't think we have ever lost to Free Shoes University. They seem a little light in the loafers

Personally I would like Florida to win against the Aggies and then we take em to the wood shed....

I agree with you 100%. It would look better for us to hand Florida their first loss, rather them already having a loss when they roll into town.

And we've never lost to Oklahoma or Ohio State...and we dont finish up with Vandy and UK.
============================

And you've only played Alabama 38 times in 110 years.

UT's played them 93 times (and has a better winning % vs. Alabama than does Florida).

UT has played and won more games vs. Alabama than anybody.

I was sitting in that $hitrus Bowl monsoon watching Bill Duff make Eddie George his *****...good times...
-------------------

But because in 1967 the final polls were taken before the bowls, UT still finished #2 in the AP poll (and was #1in others).
