Did not see it myself but the comments by the Gator faithful on Swampgas suggest we may have improved a bit on defense but are just going to be one dimensional on offense. Essentially no passing game and what we will have will be erratic, at best. No QB stepped up last night.

Its only a Spring game but the Wisconsin transfer Mertz is, as advertised, sucky. Predictions are we are going to have to get lucky to make any bowl game.
Was looking at the schedule. Getting to 500 may be a tall task.

For as long as long I can remember UF has almost always had a Top 5 strength of schedule. Being in the SEC will do that to you, as Tennessee fans can also attest.

Speaking of Florida's schedule, it is crazy that they have not played a non conference power 5 opponent on the road (excluding neutral site games) outside of the state of Florida in over 30 years (this year will end that streak).

That's been a topic for a long time but it is tied a lot to the home and home with FSU. Going on the road for a non SEC game when every other year we go to Tallahassee creates a financial hit on one less home game those years.

Those home games generate a ton of dough for the university and the local businesses.

Tennessee would be the same way if Vanderbilt was a good program and outside of the SEC. That's the situation UF is in with FSU.

UF has essentially what is a built-in P5 non-conference game every year, and it happens to be in-state. We have to go out and get one.

Let's not confuse FSU and Miami with Memphis and MTSU. In those 30 years those in state opponents won 3 national championships and played for a couple more. Would their schedule be stronger if they played UVa or Georgia Tech?

That Vanderbilt like picture in this article is a little over the top. Now if the article WAS about Vandy, I'd say it was legit. Vandy blazed the trail for the Covid social separation long before there was a pandemic. So let's be honest with ourselves for a minute - that season were Butch Jones screwed up our record of never going through an season by not losing an conference game (and dang, that hurt, losing EVERY conference game).. you could have taken a picture exactly like that in Neyland stadium.

So yes, at this moment it looks bad for the Gators, and I'm sure they reveled in it that season I referred to in the last paragraph. I don't see this as a permanent thing. Even Bama was in the wilderness for half a decade after the Mike Shula/Mike Dubose years. Hard to see any trend unless you are a boomer (like me) and have lived through these cycles. (Those Mike years at Bama were fun.. Mike years? Dubose, Shula, Price).

Gators are just feeling the cycle, that's all. They are about 3 coach firings away from being good again.
