Florida

I watched the first half of the Florida game (replay yesterday). The defense looked really good. It'll be interesting to see how good they are against a team that can pass.

A work in progress sounds right for the O.
Demps and Rainey were effective when they got on the edge. There were lots of yards on those swing passes out of the back-field. Florida had nothing down the field in the passing game, nor was there an inside run game.

In the first half, I only saw one inside run for significant gain (Last play of the 1st QTR, delay/draw for about 7 yards). I'd even go as far as to say if you only totaled inside hand-offs, Florida probably had no-gain or minus yards rushing.

UAF was clearly no match for Florida. How Florida will stack up against BCS talent is yet to be seen.

Great post. We actually had some decent inside runs, but also some where Rainey and Demps got stuffed. Gillislee is probably our only back that could consistently run through tackles. Demps and Rainey are speed demons, and to be utilized to their full potential, you need to run sweeps and swings to get them into space where they can excell.

Our Passing Game actually was open; You need to watch the first 4 drives again. Brantley had some good throws, but still the amount he has improved will be determined when Tennessee comes to town on the 17th.

I'd be more worried about Cincinnati than Florida if I were you. If you guys can't find a way to run the ball on Cincinnati, you're in deep trouble come 2 weeks in Gainesville.

Our offense may be a work in progress, but the UF defense is the real deal. You can count on that. For those that don't remember, as bad as UF was last season, we still ended up with a top 10 defense in the country.

I'm plenty worried about Cincy. Luckily I am not a player for the team so I get the luxury of dreaming of beating you guys in the swamp. Likely we won't due to talent and 6 previous losses but a fans gotta believe.

As I said, I only watched the first half. All of my comments are based on 1st half only.
The stats indicate that Brantley's longest pass of the day was 19 yards (avg 7.6 yds). I'm not certain, but I'd be willing to wager that was to a back with RAC.

{note: Driscoll had a 20 yd pass, that must have been in the 2nd. I only recall him throwing a pick in the 1st half.}

Yeah, I didn't really like the coaching staff putting Driskel in that early. It seemed to take the offense out of rhythm, and screwed up Brantley's head a little. Driskel did rebound with a nice drive in the 4th quarter though.

You guys won't give it up about last year.

We achieved nearly 0 1st downs, which left an uber young D out there. We had a patchwork on the D line and got 0 pressure on Brantley. Heck one of our main receivers was out, Simms was playing and Malik was still at DE. A lot has changed since then for us and you. We have some depth, better starters at QB and both lines not to mention a better 1a RB.

I want FL to be confident so there are no excuses when we beat you. Last year I think playing you early definitely hurt us. This year I think playing you early favors us.

We aren't confident as much as we are encouraged to see a well-coached team. We haven't seen that on both sides of the ball since 2008.

It's easier, not to mention more reassuring, to hammer Weis' NFL credentials instead of conceding UF's offense is much better than a year ago.

Our worst offense in 25 years scored 31 in Neyland.

Hard to disagree there, we didn't exactly field the Bears D of 85' either.

From people around the team, we've heard that Floyd likely will be cleared to play this weekend. Hopefully, tomorrow confirms this.

Hearing the same thing on Floyd. All I wanted to see in the first game was a team that was prepared to play as well as better play calling. My low standards were met.

Still could UT come in and beat Florida, sure. I think Florida will be favored but it's definitely not out of the realm of possibility that UT wins. If we turn the ball over and Bray and the O Line play lights out, then it will definitely be difficult for UF to win.

We showed nothing, Florida showed nothing. We'll see in 2 weeks.

This is really the only thing that matters to me.

It was a garbage game for just about everyone in the country. No one shows anything in these games.

EDIT: except for Auburn of course, [lol]

It not about UNC from what I'm hearing. Has to do with the way he raised money for his camps/unofficial visit during his JR/SR year. Bake sells, car wash and alumni donations. Some of it comes from a tOSU grad who was also an alumni of his HS.

all that sounds ok to me seriously you get in trouble for that type of stuff? it seems like alot of kids would have to do stuff like that to raise money to get all around the country to go to the big camps and visits

ok from what i read on GS today sounds like his HS coach thinks the whole thing is stupid said he lost all respect for the NCAA lol so im thinkin its really minor and they get it all cleared up

Are these Nevin Shapiro car washes? The kind where he would actually give you the car to be washed?

Law, or anyone who watched the UF game... Did Powell play down as a D End all game? Or as a blitzing linebacker some?

He played the "buck" position, which is a hybrid DE/LB. He was lined up most of the time as DE, although he did line up at LB a couple times.
