Florida's Carlos Dunlap arrested (merged)

What is really unfortunate, and yet telling, of the society we live in is that if someone were driving drunk and killed someone then they could be charged for manslaughter and, in this case, would most definitely be kicked off the team. Yet, because he just fell asleep he will probably be suspended for the SECCG and able to return for the NC.... So the result, rather than the act itself, is the deciding factor.

It would be awesome to live under a judicial system steeped in potential outcomes.

Ha, probably not.... I just am not a fan of drinking and driving at all and think that it should be punished even harder than it is,and think that legislators should make it easier for folks to find alternative ways to get home.

for repeat offendors i'd agree, but for the person who happened to have his tail light out and blew a .09 i'd argue the punishment is plenty severe.

Just talked about it on Around The Horn. Woody Paige said he would be punished and suspended for the seccg because there has been 23 (?) arrest and there have been suspentions in most of them. LMAO Jay Marrioti (sp*) said he has to suspend him if he wants to clean the program up and show people he will not put up with it.
Just merely opinions but that it funny what Woody said

Meyer didn't put a bottle in his hands just like Kiffin didn't put that gun in the hands of the UT DB.

Arguing that these kinds of things occur more because the coach is generally lax in discipline and less because of the overall character of the kids is just plain false.

Niether was the fault of the coach. Kiffin did what he had to do, and Meyer ought to suspend Dunlap for the SECCG, perhaps even the bowl game if circumstances warrant.

This is #25 I believe

I would not be a bit surprised if Meyer let this kid play. He will do anything to win.

generally it's not what happens in school that matters, it's the type of kids you recruit in the first place.

How is that a false argument? CUM has proven to be a weak disciplinarian at best. The Brandon Spikes "suspension" was the weakest discipline I have ever seen administered to someone who acted unprofessionally, to put it mildly.

Urban only cares about winning. Simple as that.

No but the following quote from Dunlap's father is pretty telling IMO of how Urban views a lot of the arrests.

Carlos Dunlap Sr. told The Orlando Sentinel that Meyer needed to check with the Florida administration, but didn't know if he could play Dunlap.
Dunlap likely won't play, his father says - SEC Blog - ESPN

I might be parsing words but from that I take that Urban would play Dunlap in the game if the decision is left with him.

I think comments and attitudes like that do breed more incidents because the players won't see any consequences from the coaches for running afoul of the law.

IMO Kiffin handled the robberies (a more severe crime i'll admit) well by barring the players from team activities until their guilt could be verified and dismissing the two players who guilt was verified. That sends a message to your current and future players that the behavior won't be tolerated.

Suspended indefinately and will not play in SECCG.. per ESPN

After the ruling was passed down that Florida DE Carlos Dunlap would be suspended for the SEC Championship Game, Dunlap filed an appeal to SEC commissioner Mike Slive. Dunlap stated that he did not intend on getting drunk. He claims the he was drinking water and Tim Tebow turned it into wine when he wasn't looking. The next thing he knew, he was in the middle of a field sobriety test and things weren't going well.

It really wasn't his fault... Maybe Tebow should be suspended for contributing to a minor.

From ESPN:

Carlos Dunlap Sr. told The Orlando Sentinel that Meyer needed to check with the Florida administration, but didn't know if he could play Dunlap.

Dunlap's father said his son was out with a few of his teammates and was two blocks from his house when he fell asleep at the wheel of his car. Dunlap asked the police officers to let him walk to his house, his father said.

I think that is very telling that if the administration said Meyer could play him he would have. Wow!

Officer, can I please walk... I wasn't technically driving when you stopped me. I play for the Gators. Are you a fan? I can get you a Tebow autograph.

What a moron.

congrats tennessee! 1 armed robbery and a douche coach later, You have won the jacka$$ of the SEC award!

welcome to VN kriffle

I believe that most of the comments are about the lack of punishment brought down by CUM.............. unless he feels pressured by the media, etc. as happened in the eye poking incident.

just like you might want to let the whole armed robbery thing die down... you might want to wait longer than 3 HOURS for a statement from urban

took your man a damn day to take richardson out of the game and even longer to take him off of the team. ridiculous.

"Carlos obviously made a very poor decision," Meyer said. "I have not spoke to him or his family yet. He's not going to play. But I want to visit with him and his family first and go from there."

didn't need to sleep on that one

Don't let pesky little facts get I the way of your homerism. Just tell it like you want it to be and we'll all just pretend you know WTF you're talking about.

FYI, we'll have to pretend immeasurably, so bear with us if we can't get all the way there.
