I said I was a big fan of Barry's. I don't think I said he was my favorite player, even though with the recent retirement of Barry Larkin, he probably is my favorite active player. George Brett would be my all time favorite player. I would be the first to admit that Barry's resume has a huge hole in it. I would point out that in his one shot at the World Series he put on one of the greatest offensive performances in history. That said, he hasn't won a championship. If I'm going to criticize Manning for not reaching the ultimate accomplishment in his sport, I have to recognize that Bonds has also fallen short on that accord.(allvol123 @ Jul 28 said:hey hat, did you mention earlier that Bonds was your favorite player, correct me if I am wrong. Just seemed odd to me. It seems like you are really into "winning championships" as a measuring device as to how great an athlete or coach is. That's why I would not understand you being such a fan of his, as he has never won anything. Not inteded as a smart ass type of question, just seemed atypical of your thought process.

I like Pete, but I was fairly young when he left to sign with the Phillies. I also resent him for being such a lousy manager and strangling the great young talent the Reds had in the late '80s. It's no coincidence that Piniella immediately won the World Series upon his arrival. Any decent manger could have done that. Finally, I've had the misfortune of meeting Pete. If people think Bonds is a jerk, they should meet Mr. Rose without a camera around. He's a deplorable guy.(tidwell @ Jul 28 said:What about Rose, hat? I would've figured you were a big fan of his, being a Reds fan.
