Interesting hypothetical:

Would you have sacrificed yourself to influenza if it meant Tennessee would have beaten both Oklahoma and Florida?

Getting a flu shot is a responsible thing. It isn't just about preventing you from getting the flu, it's also about preventing the spread of the flu.

Just like Measles vaccine.

Ha, that's a tough call.

We were joking while wallowing in misery Saturday night as to how much we would be willing to pay for Medley's kick to have been 12" left.

What were some of the responses? I would be fine up to a couple hundred, but would really have to think about it the closer it gets to $500.

quadrivalent shot what is that ? I got a flu shot at the Rite Aid,when they first came out,i get one every year and my dad got me to keep a bottle of disinfectant soap in my truck and use it after a trip to a store,it seems to have helped a lot with the common cold

and I got a Pneumonia shot a couple of years ago,after I was laid up in the hospital with it for several days

In a heart beat. I'd take one for all of us to have such glory.

I've had the flu once. Lasted about 2 days. I heal quickly. Always have.

A trivalent shot(the standard) has 3 strains of inactivated flu virus in it, it's what everyone is getting if they get a flu shot without asking for details. A quadrivalent shot has 4 strains of inactivated flu virus in it, it offers one more "layer of protection" if you will.

They ought to figure out how to put ALL the strains into one shot. :)

crap,now you tell me lol i assume that since I have had the regular one,that I shouldn't have the quad ?

i will ask em at the Rite aid what kind of shot it was

Flu shots work, but I never get the flu so I'm not going to inconvenience myself with every vaccine that comes out.

I didn't use to,but I'd rather be on the safe side and yes getting older seems to make it easier to catch a dose

The ACIP released a statement in late June recommending against the use of the LAIV (Flumist) this year. Studies from last year showed poor effectiveness, but the reason is unknown at the time.

Of note, multiple studies in prior years showed equal or better efficacy of the FluMist compared to the shot.

This news is very interesting to us, because we just had the calmest flu season I can remember. You would think we would have had a major outbreak last winter if the mist wasn't working.

What does this mean? Likely: there will be a shortage of the shot, fewer people will get immunized (without schools administering the mist), and there will be more cases of the flu this winter (and more work hours for me...).
