Food and stuff in Atlanta

I will say at least that the one in Athens is slightly more tolerable than the one in Atlanta.
Maybe so, but the North Avenue location is special. There, you get assaulted twice, first by the hostile waitstaff, and then by the food.

And if you want to get assaulted a third time, try walking back to the Tech campus at night on the North Avenue bridge. Hit the trifecta, baby!

Double such Blasphemy! I have walked to the Athens establishment with UGA grads who ordered "two chili dogs and hold the spit". I have never heard such an order at the holy of holies.

I'll be glad when you can drive form middle Tennessee area to see the Braves play without dealing with all of the traffic woes.I get in and out of a UT game faster than an Atlanta Brave game.

Brother, that ain't because of the game. That's every day.

PS- its always better to trek through the ghetto to I-20 and then hit 75 from there.

Whatever happened to Outlets Limited Mall? I think I remember my parents and grandparents taking me there when I was a little squirt before I moved to K-town. I know Lovell pretty well, too. At least I think I do.

Underground Atlanta is the *last* place you want to visit when you go to Atlanta. Safety issues aside, it's basically like walking through an underground version of Outlets Ltd Mall off of Lovell Road in K-Town. Tons of overpriced dreck.

Any of you all remember Outlets Ltd Mall? Yeah, that was the big time, baby! :)

I think the building is still there, but I don't know if it's still in use.

The only thing really holding down that area last time I was around was the Cotton Eyed Joe and that Knight's Inn extended stay motel - anybody currently in K-Town know if the Joe is still in operation?

Oh yes, I can say for certain that the Joe is still in business. They still have $.05 long necks on Tuesday or Wednesday or something. I went in there once w/ a sweater vest on - not the best idea.

The building across the street from Joe's used to be Senior Frogs and then something else. I think it's a training hall or something now.

It's lunch only, but actually not too far from the Georgia Dome. Excellent soul food, but a total dive; and divey is nice if you are in the mood. Carver's Country Kitchen, Atlanta, GA - Restaurant Guide | AccessAtlanta

Rachael Ray also visited this place, and it is one of my favorites; it is in Chastain Park: Horseradish Grill - Upscale Southern Dining in Atlanta, Georgia

If you are coming in for the SEC Tourney, then you'll have time for all kinds of meals. A few great breakfast / brunch restaurants are The Flying Biscuit and Murphy's. Both of which have great websites with directions, etc. If you go though, be prepared for a bit of a wait, unless you can go around 11:00 or so for the in-between breakfast and lunch crowd. I also recommend hanging out at the new Atlantic Station, just north of downtown. They have great restaurants and outdoor shopping. I don't think the weather is going to be nice this weekend though. I also recommend The Varsity for a true Atlanta experience, but make sure your system can handle the grease.

I agree that the Flying Biscuit is very nice, if you don't care about a wait. Atlantic Station is sadly overrated, IMHO. Maybe it's just because they don't seem to have a good bar there (other than the Fox Sports place, which I assume just has to suck as much as the ESPN Zone), but that place just hasn't lived up to the hype.

I think it's supposed to be just cloudy all weekend, with temps in the mid-60s. That's not too bad.

If you want an experience along with incredible food, head for Fogo de Chao. It's a Brazilian steakhouse on Piedmont in Buckhead.
Then they really will need that cleansing Varsity meal. Fogo serves up some serious meat...all you can eat!!

Speaking of ethnic diversity (ref. Red-headed stepchild thread), there used to be a SERIOUSLY good, very upscale soul food place called the "SHARKS BAR" or something like that. It was downtown near one of the hospitals. Soul food meets high-brow kinda' joint.

Did you graduate from State? Underground is not a good place after dark. I think they are trying again to revitalize the place for the 20th time though.

Yeah I graduated in May 05 It took me a while to get through school. I was working full time

If you go to Breakfast/Brunch I would suggest Huey's on Peachtree St.

If you go in Decatur the Angel Pub is good on Sat and Sun, PAstries A Go-Go is really good and they opened a J Christophers a couple of months ago

Underground used to have a Barker's Hot Dogs....some of the best. But I have not been to that area in many years.
