Food and stuff in Atlanta

I would go to Fellini's on Ponce before Fritti. Fritti is good but a little on the expensive side

Agreed, but the original question was asking for "'hidden' dining gems" in Atlanta, so my original answer was to that question. Fellini's is awesome (maybe the best in Atlanta), but it's not exactly a hidden gem since it's a chain.

I definitely like it though. Their Italian sausage is awesome.

Figo sticks it up Fellini's nose. Price is comparable, and the food is way better. Fellini's has good pie, though.

Is th Churchill Arms still open? I really liked their fireplace on a chilly evening. I also recall eating a place called The Cabin on a visit maybe 5 years ago and it was top notch.

I remember visiting Underground years ago and guys were hanging around outside asking for money to watch your car for you.Maybe it's a little safer area now.

The Cabin has changed drastically. It is now an after hours club for service industry people. It was a great place before they changed ownership. :cray:

Have a drink at Manuel's Tavern....be careful if you're on the Right side of politics though.

I went to school down at Georgia State which is basically right there at Underground. It isn't too bad but there is really not a reason to go down there unless you are catching the braves shuttle.

Did you graduate from State? Underground is not a good place after dark. I think they are trying again to revitalize the place for the 20th time though.

Underground Atlanta is the *last* place you want to visit when you go to Atlanta. Safety issues aside, it's basically like walking through an underground version of Outlets Ltd Mall off of Lovell Road in K-Town. Tons of overpriced dreck.

Any of you all remember Outlets Ltd Mall? Yeah, that was the big time, baby! :)

They used to raffle off a beer bottle and at the the of Monday Night Football, the winner got to heave it at Howard Cosell (way back when I was at the barber college down there). Any of that stuff still go on?

I went to GSU also. Underground has really declined in the past several years. I'm afraid the World of Coke leaving is going to be a fatal blow.

Two places that I will always try to go to when in Atlanta is The Varsity and Jock & Jill's. Both have great food and a great atmosphere.

IMO The Varsity is one of the most overrated experiences in Atlanta. It's an oversized Krystal that sells hotdogs.

There is the very occasional hangover that requires a chili, cheese and slaw dog from the Varsity. (Esepcially since the Varsity Jr. on Cheshire Bridge is five minutes from my house.) But that is never a proud moment. It's usually easier and healthier to just start drinking again.

I'll be glad when you can drive form middle Tennessee area to see the Braves play without dealing with all of the traffic woes.I get in and out of a UT game faster than an Atlanta Brave game.

I will say at least that the one in Athens is slightly more tolerable than the one in Atlanta.

Ru San's is a chain, but they do have great sushi. They also have that trendy Euro house thump going which means lots of hot chicks!

Thanks for that one. Wife loves Sushi and we'll be staying there next month. This sounds like a great way for me to get some easy points w/ the wife.
