I agree they didn’t think he was good enough. But that’s not going to cause the reaction we saw. That with the combination of Penn St child abuse stink is what drove the anti Schiano response we saw. Technically he was more qualified than Pruitt being that he already had college and NFL head coaching experience. But nobody threw a fit over Pruitt like they did with Schiano even though many fans had to google Pruitt to find out who he was.I agree that it was a selection out of tune with the fan base but I believe a majority didn’t want him because they thought he wasn’t good enough. The Penn State thing was used as an excuse and quoted but I don’t believe that was the primary reason for most.
I know TN is working to pass some form of litigation protection and cases are on the decline overall so it makes sense that the conferences should wait a little longer to see what happens. I’m surprised the Pac 12 and Big 10 went ahead and canceled.combination of Covid and lawyers foaming at the mouth for lawsuits
You could be right but I disagree. Pruitt, while some didn’t know him, was given somewhat of a pass once people learned he was Southern. Like it or not, that matters to a lot of people. Now if you were to bring in Pete Carroll or someone like that I somehow think it wouldn’t really matter but a .500 career college coach who had player relationship troubles at TB? After Dooley and Butch he wasn’t seen as good enough. At least with Pruitt he was considered a top assistant. I think people felt Schiano showed what he would be already while with Pruitt we didn’t know for sure. I’m not saying Penn St wasn’t a factor but I think the fans would have still revolted even had Schiano never coached at PSU. We will never know for sure. Regardless, he wasn’t a fit.I agree they didn’t think he was good enough. But that’s not going to cause the reaction we saw. If he’d never coached at Penn St I think he would probably be the UT coach today.
No apology needed man, it's all good. I'm a hillbilly hick I guess. Whether he had anything to do with that mess or not it was attached to him and I didn't want any part of it. We did better imo anyway.Fair enough. My statement was a little broader than it should have been and too assumptive. I believe that the primary reason most didn’t want Schiano is because they didn’t think he was good enough. My apologies Behr.
I definitely agree with that. Schiano's positives didn't outweigh the potential negatives. People thought he had reached his ceiling as a coach. Bring in a coach that has the same history, but has won at the highest level of college/NFL like a Carroll or whoever and I don't think that past would have mattered as much. Now if you were to bring in Pete Carroll or someone like that I somehow think it wouldn’t really matter but a .500 career college coach who had player relationship troubles at TB? I can't either. Somewhere, something goes wrong internally with these people. Maybe it's a wiring issue at birth.
I don't know. People who are in positions of power can seemingly make the most physically gifted wilt at times. Why didn't McCrary go into the shower and slam Sandusky?I'm talking physically do it. College wrestlers are in the best shape of any collegiate athletes, how does an out of shape middle aged man sexually assault one without getting his ass whooped?
