Who is better? I'm not talking talent who is better for our team, and who has been more consistent?

Maymon is better and has been more consistent. Maymon has had double digit points in 8 of our last 9 games. He's had 7 or more rebounds in 6 of the last 7 and 9 of the last 11. He's shot 50% or better in 8 of the last 9 games.

Golden has 5 or fewer points in 4 of the last 7 games. He's shot worse than 25% in 4 of the last 7 games. He's had an assist to turnover ratio of 1.00 or worse in 7 of the last 10 games.

Golden is the most important player on our team. Your numbers show that. But don't confuse "most important" with "best" or "most consistent." He's good, but he's only the most important because his backup sucks worse than any of the other backups.

i can live with maymon, i was thinking you were going the stokes route. up until the last 5 games it was definitely golden, but as you pointed out the previous 5 games excluding last night golden has been a no show. in fact, against UK and Vandy jeronne really seemed like the only starter that wanted to be there and playing.

I agree with almost all of this. The one tweak I'll make it to point out that Golden had stinkers against Memphis (3 of 19), Austin Peay (1 of 9, 3 TOs) and UNC-Asheville (1 of 8, 3 TOs). Basically, he was very steady to start the season, then had a two week stretch of bad play, then was very steady for another couple weeks, and now is in a stretch of inconsistent play. Which happens to a lot of sophomores who are first year starters.

Maymon's definitely been the engine that drives the team in a lot of situations. His second half against UNC-Asheville (10 points, 12 rebounds) pulled us out of a huge funk, and as you mentioned, he's been the only one to come out firing on the road.

Stokes is by far the most talented, but I'll give him more than two weeks before I anoint him best or most important.

i wish more people were as rational as you are.:hi:

I agree about Maze. I'd take senior Maze over sophomore Golden.

Maymon has been more consistent over the season than Golden. It's close though. Their consistency is somewhat tied together as Maymon must rely on Golden to get the ball to him in the paint.

so i got started looking at this in another thread and figured id do it for the whole team as SOME people may be interested in it. im going to use the roland rating in posting the +/- for each player, so i'll explain what that is.

basically you are taking the +/- of the team with player A on the court and subtracting it from the +/- of the team with player A off the court. in short this basically shows you how the team plays with each player on the court vs off the court, and tells you who is the better player for the team. so with that said here is the Roland Rating AVERAGE for each player:

Trae Golden- +4.5
Skylar Mcbee- -1.2
Josh Richardson- -2.9
Cameron Tatum- +.08
Jeronne Maymon- -1.00
Jarnell Stokes- -.13
Jordan Mcrae- +0.6
Kenny Hall- -1.5

biggest surprise to me is that tatum is in the +, i looked further and its because of his early season production. in the last 5 games he is actually -10:shakehead:

clearly trae golden is our man out there and we go how he goes. in 10 of our 12 losses he has a negative +/-, so we obviously need him to play well. i fully expect stokes number to go up as he cuts out turnovers as well.

These data don't mean very much because they depend on the five players who are on the court at the same time. If you happen to be playing with someone who gets hot, you end up with a big plus. What were the numbers against Ky for the guys who were in the game when ole #3 went 5 for 5 from behind the line?

I'll look when I get home but for that little stretch it was probably 0. We stayed about even, and then with him in later on went backwards so I don't see it being that blown up.

Like any stat it has it's flaws just figured I would share my findings. Many coaches use the plus minus to determine a lot of things, pearl used the plus minus regularly.

I'm not trying to argue just curious? How do you come up with yours, or how we're mine wrong? I got it straight off a stat website that does +\- and Roland rating. My bad if I screwed up.

Interesting that Jarnell has the worst +/-

Maymon doesn't have good numbers either.

Woolridge has some of the best for a player that doesn't get much PT

Stat sheet? That's where I got mine. These are averages for the season.

it normally takes them at least a day to get the +/- data

i just went back and looked. did you add them up yourself from each game and then average? or is there an average somewhere already on the page.

cause i just added up golden's RR and divided it by 23 the number of games we've played and its around 4.5. his +/- was 3.6.

something i did notice of maymon is against chaminade he has like a -27 because you only played a minute or two, so it shows the team outscoring chaminade by 27 with him on the bench. if you take away just that game since he didnt even play his number does go way up. FWIW
