For the record folks, randy sanders is offensive

One would think the door would close on this thread

Considering how low in the pecking order we fell when butch was hired, sanders might be an excellent choice, if butch decides to move on. I personally think Dave hart got lucky when he hired butch, but we all know he wasn't our first choice. Goodness gracious, Texas hired Charlie strong who in my opinion will be a huge failure. I wish randy much success and hope he is very successful to the point he could be a viable candidate at some point. :lolabove:

I think it's years too early to be having this discussion. ":lolabove:"

Agree. Feathers says he's a Butch supporter yet it will be 3-5 years before UT can win anything. If it's 3-5 years, Butch won't be the coach here to see it happen. Oh the irony.

I like Randy, and yes, he got way for blame than he deserved. And I hope he gets a HC job one day. But this thread is flat out effed up.

If we get rid of Butch and hire Randy Sanders, I will stop watching football and start watching futbol.

You have a problem with the truth because I have said neither. We have one national title in 64 years sir. Yet I recall many good memories of winning big games, beating our rivals, winning exciting bowl games that dif not involve winning a championship.
And... then UT began to decline because Fulmer lost Cut and could not discipline a staff that was not self-disciplining nor would he replace guys who were holding the program back.

While it should be the goal, I am not going to hold our head coach to an unattainable standard. Your list of elite coaches has spurrier and saban. Good luck with your misery......:hi:

If winning championships isn't your "standard"... then your standard isn't high enough for a program with the resources, investment, and history of UT. In fact, that is a pathetic loser's attitude. Championships are NOT "unattainable" if and when UT finds the right coach. They weren't unattainable for LSU or Bama prior to Saban.... UF prior to Spurrier or Meyer... Auburn prior to Malzahn... USC prior to Carroll.

They aren't unattainable for Texas right now though Brown, like Fulmer, held on long after the game passed him by.

If you want to succeed then you search until you find the right coach/leader. But you have already established that you are plenty fine with perpetual mediocrity.

FWIW, I have never met a person with high hopes, ambitions, and standards that was "miserable". Virtually everyone I know who settles for mediocrity becomes miserable when they find that level impossible to maintain. Acceptance of mediocrity inevitably leads to worse.

IIRC, Sanders was considered and rejected for a HC job once... Western Carolina took a brief look at him.

I detect a bit of Kiffin butt hurt here. Something you need to remember is the head football coach's position at the University of Tennessee is NOT a stepping stone for a better position. If CBJ is successful he will be here for a very long time.

Coordinator/ qb coach of a national championship team. Is it possible that he will establish himself enough to eventually become our head coach? I know there are a lot of necks that don't understand football and don't like him, but if Fsu wins another title soon with his leadership, he is positioning himself nicely. I like butch a lot, but if he become very successful, michigan may come calling. Just things to think about. Go randy! Go vols!:hi:

GTFO :eek:lol:

Fulmer's appointment of Sanders as OC was the start of UT's long slide. While the promotion of Chavis as DC worked out (even though he wasn't very good at first and got schooled for a year or two by Spurrier, who schooled everybody), Sanders was an absolutely TERRIBLE OC. It's hard to overstate how bad he was. He didn't get better with experience; our offense got progressively worse with him at the helm. What I remember most is that we were consantly slow getting plays off--we'd get to the LOS and the QB would often change the call and then confusion would set in, the play clock would be winding down, and we'd have to snap it hurriedly. We would call timeouts and then, coming out of the timeout, we'd get confused and have to call another timeout. Our offense was pathetic under Sanders--and from there the whole program began to sink. He was as bad if not worse than Sunseri. I'm glad he's landed on his feet, somewhat, but no, we would not want to hire him as OC.
