I'd be ok with 8-4 as long as one of those wins is against Florida and we avoid getting blown out in the 4 losses. I went big in the prediction thread with 10-2 because I wanna believe Jones is gonna be elite here.

I feel this year Butch needs to/has opportunities to show whether he is a "good coach" or not.

I've watched him lose/get out coached by Vandy...Florida...UGA...Mizzou...etc so far.

That's arguably how Les Miles has kept his job. I don't follow LSU well enough to know, but I've always heard he's not a good coach soooo how has we done relatively well, if you believe that? Recruiting.

Unlike many, my expectations this season for CBJ is 8-4 with (hopefully) an end to at least a couple of the long standing losing streaks we've had against teams in the SEC.

To me, next season will be the year whether or not we'll know if CBJ is either Urban Meyer or Dabo Swinney.

I would take 8-4 with a win over one, hopefully two, of the higher tier teams, georgia-oklahoma-Missouri-Arkansas-(maybe Florida). I don't think we will beat Bama. I would love to see a big win against a team that has a good year otherwise kind of to see that it is not a fluke. USCjr's defense fell apart multiple times late in games last year. As amazing as our comeback was last year, it only really appeased my hunger for a win more than won me over with the coaching staff. I think we should pull off two this year for the coaches to be on good track. If not, say we repeat last year, I'm not calling for Butch's job as he's done a lot better than Dooley ever did, but 2016 will have pretty high expectations if we don't hit 8 wins this season. GBO!

No change in my answer at all. I was asked if I was saying whether Butch was a "good coach"...my answer...I haven't seen him be a "good coach" yet...'cause a "good coach" wins games.

never saw him play trumpet...but that high school pic is unfortunately dorky, and not telling whether he was a good trumpet player...or knows ANYTHING about football...

I think Butch has a great chance to win a whole bunch of football games, challenge pretty routinely for the SECe and maybe even win an SEC championship or 3 if he stays at Tennessee for an extended period of time......primarily because of how hard he works and how strong a recruiter he is. But I feel very strongly at the moment, that he ain't, nor will he ever be Urban Meyer. As much as we all dislike the guy, he's elite an very likely the best college football coach in the country and Butch just hasn't given us any reason to date to believe he'll ever approach/reach that level. Jmo.

Tall order actually; Bama is, well, Bama and Oklahoma is predicted by some to make the playoffs. Doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room to live up to your expectation.

Everybody says wait until 2016! I have heard it 10,000 times here in Knoxville. After this year we lose North, Pig, Sutton, Mcneil, Randolph, Maggitt, obrian, probably Reeves-Maybin, Kamara, and Im sure there are several I have left off. So what is this lets wait crap I keep hearing!

Don't assume we're losing all of those Jr's, it greatly depends on the kind of year they have. Also O'Brien is just a RSJR. He still has 1 year of eligibility left.

He goes 6-6 we're on the fence and his seat gets pretty warm. He goes 10-2 and we're all going to be on here speculating about him leaving. It's a Volnation catch 22...

I personally think Butch is doing a great job. What he has done in a short period of time is special!

Why does everyone seem to forget what a mess Urban left Florida in before leaving. Do you think Saban would leave a school in that kind of condition? I don't like Saban as I am a true Vol fan but I can not put Urban in the same class as Saban and some people are saying Urban is better! Ironic that Urban's health improved and seeing his daughter play soccer wasn't as important once Ohio State became vacant. I'm sorry but he is a weasel to me!! JMO

You're judging a painting before it's finished. All rebuilds are different. I know and remember the dumpster fire Jones took over. In spite of many on here, I think we're one year away.

You're assuming several players are leaving. You're also forgetting how young we are and MANY of those youngsters will be more than ready and able to replace those we lose. I know most hate to hear it. But we are a year away.

Nothing in the season short of beating Bama. think about how people were getting sold on Dooley after NC State beating, then turned out NC State was bad. Coukd see a win over Oklahoma then Oklahoma not being great this year by seasons end. I guess I would classify myself as on the fence about him, but I am extremely confident in him, just want to see how he does with a full roster of his guys which takes a while. I'm just not going to make a premature declaration of "we're back", " Butch is worthy of huge raise and extension", etc, until it plays out. So to answer OP, beating Bama is the only in season thing that would remove any doubt I have. (Which isn't much doubt at this point)

Yes, Urban is a weasel.... He's also 142-26 with 3 national titles
