For Those That Question CDD

1) 17-20 WAC = SEC legend is pretty much the cry of the pro-Dooley camp in everything they post.

For some maybe, but the same outrageous statements come from the Dooley haters as well. Dooming him to failure before he even has a chance to set foot on the field.

My stance is this, I'm Pro-Dooley b/c I'm Pro-Tennessee. Do I think he's the savior of Tennessee Football for years to come, in all reality probably not, but since the university doesn't call to get my opinion on head coaching changes I'll have to live with who they choose.

I'm gonna support the guy till he proves he is clearly in over his head. Until then I'm gonna wear my big orange shades, show up for as many games as I can, and give all my support to the guy who regardless of public opinion is our coach.

2) I agree that a three star outside of Tennessee probably does get as many or more offers than a four-star recruit from the state of Tennessee. HOWEVER...Louisiana still churns out enough good players every year that a LaTech type school should get their fair share.

Just my two cents.

Agree wholeheartedly.

Two comments of interest have come from cjz and sgm. The reason Dooley was not interviewed for the Virginia coaching vacancy is because Craig Littlepage, the AD, had already decided who he wanted and just had to wait for the season to end to make the hire. Regarding Dooley's 2009 record at Tech indicating his inability to recruit "diamonds in the rough" and to create depth to cover the injuries of which there were an inordinate #: His biggest problem re: the injuries was lack of experience. He recruited at Tech as he has and will at Tennesse, for the long haul. His 2009 roster lists 115 players, 56 of which were FR or RSFR. It was this group that he had to use most of the time because they were better players than the upperclassmen at their position. He had 10 Sr w/3L, 1SR w/ 1L, 14 JR w/ 2L, 1JR w/ 1L and 11 SO w/ 1L. He could not offer 85 scholarships because of gender equity, something he was trying to correct as AD. In his 1 point loss to Idaho, his FR kicker missed his only PAT and Tech ran out of time on their last drive missing on about a 50 yd field goal, otherwise OT. In his 2 point loss to Fresno, Fresno kicked a field goal as time was running out. On their final drive, a 1st year corner dropped a drive and game ending interception. Similar story with the 2 point loss to Utah State. This is simply FWIW. I'm not from Tennessee but I am a fan of Dooley's and believe that doubters will approve of him in time.

Thanks for the info. Still you should be able to go 6-6 in the WAC.

As recruiting coordinator(2000-2002) at LSU he identified talent for 3 years that lead to them winning the NC in 2003. After which he was still involved in recruiting but was working himself up the ladder into higher coaching positions under CNS, which BTW was the asst HC at LSU in 2004. So that shows you that CNS knew that he could coach at that level.

Now while in above position the talent he evaluated included these players. Not all have had successful NFL careers but they were great in college and hence why they were drafted into the NFL.

NFL Draft
Rd # selection
2006
1 30 30 Joseph Addai Colts RB
2 23 55 Andrew Whitworth Bengals T
3 4 68 Claude Wroten Rams DT
4 28 125 Skyler Green Cowboys WR
5 1 134 Kyle Williams Bills DT
6 28 197 Melvin Oliver 49ers DE
7 23 231 Bennie Brazell Bengals WR
2005
1 20 20 Marcus Spears Cowboys DE
2 11 43 Corey Webster Giants DB
4 3 104 Travis Daniels Dolphins DB
2004
1 15 15 Michael Clayton Buccaneers WR
2 18 50 Devery Henderson Saints WR
2 31 63 Marquise Hill Patriots DE
3 20 83 Stephen Peterman Cowboys G
5 10 142 Chad Lavalais Falcons DT
7 23 224 Donnie Jr. Jones Seahawks P
7 24 225 Matt Mauck Broncos QB

Not bad that in 3 years of identifying talent at LSU not only did CDD help them get players to win a NC he got 17 players drafted into the NFL. Also while still involved in the recruiting another 12 got into the NFL and help CLM win the NC in 2007. All the upper classman on the 2007 NC team was recruited by CNS and CDD. Even CNS said that CDD was one of the best recruiters on his staff and tried to get him on his staff at UA.

2008
1 5 5 Glenn Dorsey Chiefs DT
3 5 68 Chevis Jackson Falcons DB
3 6 69 Jacob Hester Chargers RB
3 18 81 Early Doucet Cardinals WR
4 21 120 Craig Steltz Bears DB
7 2 209 Matt Flynn Packers QB
7 25 232 Keith Zinger Falcons TE
2007
1 1 1 JaMarcus Russell Raiders QB
1 6 6 LaRon Landry Redskins DB
1 23 23 Dwayne Bowe Chiefs WR
1 30 30 Craig Davis Chargers WR
7 3 213 Chase Pittman Browns DE

Also all the fans that worry about star ratings take a look at this which I posted in another thread.

R McClain 4 stars and K Jackson 3 stars 1st rd draft picks this year
T Cody 3 stars and J Arenas 3 stars 2nd rd draft picks this year

M Ingram 3 stars Heisman trophy and M Dareus 3 Star protected top 10 pick next year

Just because a player has 5 stars means nothing if they can not produce in college on the field. CDD can identify talent that produces on the field and has a great staff to get it done. Be patient because I think UT is on the right course. But what do I know, I am only a UA fan.:)
Thanks man! I agree!!! GBO!!!

There are some seriously ignorant vol fans.

Tidewarrior, keep it up. I enjoy your posts more than some of the imbecile vol fans on here. You bring solid info and dont come here to piss everyone off, like some of the vol posters.

I cant believe I just said that to a Bama fan. God, I must be sick!!! I feel so dirty now

Thanks for the info. Still you should be able to go 6-6 in the WAC.

Way to address his points, and back up your argument.

The comforting thing for everyone waiting to pass judgment on Dooley until they actually see what he puts on the field, is that neither you, nor Kiffin Beat-off Session have the slightest clue what you're talking about. Flash can post valid points about Dooley's situation in his last year, you can post ad nauseam that "you should be able to go 6-6 in the WAC," and it doesn't matter. Neither of you (or anyone else in these threads, for that matter) has any clue what it takes to recruit, coach, and win at a level that even approaches the WAC, let alone in the SEC.

The difference is that while most of the Dooley supporters acknowledge that his record is troubling, you two just continue to trumpet the same BS lines over, and over, and over. . . You're a teenager, calling other posters "dumb" who are probably twice your age. I get that. You lack judgment and are arrogant. God-willing, you'll grow out of that - maybe not, who knows.

At least hatvol96 appeases his minions and admirers by peppering his hypocritical little tirades with cutesy, obscure references and the ever-popular "orange overall crowd" insults.

If you're going to post the same tripe, I would work on developing more clever and witty ways to say it.

IMHO, and all that. . .

** EDIT: Thanks to TW for the time it took to post all this, by the way **

LA tech was one of the worst teams ever in Division 1A football. They had some of their best years ever with CDD as head ball coach.

It's bad when a Bama fan is easier to tolerate than some Vols fans.

Derek Dooley hasn't done anything to make people want to blindly follow him.

Nick Saban has won everywhere he's been.

It's a little easier to swallow when a 2 time NC winning coach does something than a coach with a career 17-20 record.

Give Dooley a chance to prove he knows what he's doing before singing his praises or bashing him.

This is the stance I am taking but I will support UT no matter who the HC is. Right now I am giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I will not go to the trouble of tracking down a link for the following information, but Terry Bradshaw, the former Steeler great and La Tech alum, was VERY complimentary of the job Dooley did as head football coach and athletic director at his alma mater.
