For Those That Question CDD

Every school that has a losing season has similar "reasons". God knows the Tennessee fan base had all the excuses in the world for Fulmer's 2 losing seasons. At the end of the day 4-8 is still 4-8.

Exactly. If injuries were such a huge reason Louisiana Tech went 4-8 in his third year on the job, that tells me he wasn't getting the job done on the recruiting trail to build depth.

Two things:

1) Why does a rival fan want us to succeed? That's just stupid.

2) I don't give a **** what a rival fan thinks of our coach. Sorry.

I hope you are right, but this is alot like me saying I like shulah at bama and zook at fl. Not saying it will be like that, but i would prefer that rival teams hate my coach.

No offense guys as I like both of you as posters, but step back for a second...That is a lot of spinning going on for excusing a 4-8 season.

You're right...I don't deny that 4-8 is bad...but I also believe that 4-8 one time is differant than 4-8 every season he was there...

I don't feel I'm making excuses for him when I cite legit circumstances outside of simple X's and O's that played a significant role in that record...

My position on Dooley can be described as wait and see...with cautious optimism...probably because I tend to be optimistic by nature...

I'm impressed with his resume prior to La. Tech but I also can't deny a sense of skepticism based on less than stellar results as a head coach...even if they were at a perennial doormat

I can't help but defend him to posters like Fiji because 1.) He is our coach 2.) He had the balls to take a job that nobody wanted 3.) He seems like a really good man

I agree with you, 4-8 is not good. I just think the dooley bashers are quick to point out a 4-8 season and never mention his 8-5 season, which was by far not the normal for La. Tech. It had been a few years since they won 8 games. Basically I was just saying stop dwelling on 4-8 and give the man a chance. He is our coach. We hired him and while at the end of the day its all about how many games you can win, it's unfair to say he will fail at UT because of his overall record at La. Tech. I just know he has hired a good staff here at UT, he has a huge recruiting budget, and was mentored by to great coaches in Saban and his Dad.

Right. You SHOULD be able to win without talent, right? CLK should have been 12-0 last year.:eek:k:

Come on Montrell. La Tech much like UT last year was paper thin. LT had injuries all over the field en masse much like UT had but primarily in the LB corps last fall.

I don't know what he will do at UT. He may flop. He may be great. There may be reasonable things to hold against DD's performance in the 4-8 season... but having something like 20 starters miss significant PT in one season for an undermanned team is a good reason not to win alot of games. Kiffin and crew had 7 NFL prospects and went 7-6.

I don't know if you give CLK credit for moral or "direction of the program" losses... but just be consistent if you do. LT had a stretch in spite of the injuries where they lost 5 games by a total of 23 pts... Boise and LSU were in that run.

I think it is funny that when Monte got owned by Ole Miss last year it was because we had all these injuries at key positions, but when DD loses by a combined 23 points in 5 games, injuries should not be used as an excuse for not getting the job done.

I am sorry but I find no solace in playing a team that is down. UT is our biggest rival no matter what the folks over at the Barn think. I do not like excuses even from our fans when we are down about why we dropped a game.

Why not want the biggest rival to also be a top team in the country every year when we play. It makes beating you guys even better. LOL But in all honesty I wish every opponant we play was the cream of the crop especially the 3rd Sat in October.RTR

Touche. I remember the days when Tennessee vs. Alabama was, more often than not, for all of the proverbial marbles. It is called TRADITION. It has been my experience that old-school Alabama fans take winning in stride, unlike the condescending, arrogant, historically short-sighted fan base of Florida, and appreciate the fierce intensity with which Tennessee and Alabama wage war on the gridiron.

He also went 8-5 with a bowl win the year before that. LA. Tech hadn't been to a bowl since 2001 before that year. The next year when they went 4-8 they are rebuilding due to the loss of lots of seniors. Keep in mind, 3 of their losses that year were to Auburn, #11 LSU and #5 Boise St. They also lost to Navy that year who had a 10 win season. 3 more of their losses were also by a combined 5 points. Don't focus so much on 4-8.

Look at the other WAC teams he lost too though.

I get what you're saying. I really do. But if you are a good enough recruiter like we believe Dooley is and still have injuries, you should be good enough to go 6-6 in the WAC. If it was the MWC, I'd be more leniet, but people don't understand how truly bad the WAC is.

I agree the WAC is terrible, and so would any big time recruit. It was La Tech, a program in a terrible conference with no tradition, and no history of even being relevant in one of the worst conferences.

What kind of talent is the guy supposed to bring in to a situation like that? You think he could even get a 4 or 5 star on the phone?

I think he did a respectable job in his limited time there. He brought in some decent talent and at least made them competitive (I realize as UT fans we expect more than that). And like others have said you have to respect for the man for not wanting to just ride Saban's coat tails.

Because Idaho and Utah State were really stockpiling 4 and 5 star talent. I'm not even sure Boise has a 4 star on their roster.

There are plenty of players Dooley could have landed in Louisiana and Texas that could have had them consistently in bowl games in that abomination of a conference.

Dooley has never accomplished anything of significance apart from Saban. I see no reason he'll be any better as an SEC head coach than Ed Orgeron was.

To be somewhat fair in this debate, Dooley seemed to upgrade recruiting there. He had the bowl year and might have made it back to back had he not been ravaged by injuries. With that said, you can't get around that his record sucks.

The injuries likely had something to do with it, but I'm not buying it as the only reason his last Louisiana Tech team went 4-8.

You're probably right. I'd be lying if I said his tenure at La. Tech makes me think he can win in the SEC.

Do you buy that injuries were the only reason Monte got raped by Ole Miss and Va Tech?... Just sayin'.

You described about 80% of the conference. I don't expect 4/5 stars at La. Tech, but if he's a good evaluator of talent, he could have found diamonds in the rough.

No, but they sure as hell didn't help. But those teams were better than us before the injuries. If you are a good coach and good evaluator of talent, you should win 6 games in the WAC every single year by your 3rd year.

Exactly. You can win six games in the WAC with a lot of injuries, that conference is so bad.

Whose to say he didn't? Were you and avid follower of La Tech sports before Dooley came here? I'm not saying he did or didn't but do you really KNOW that he didn't find some diamonds in the rough?

I never said they were. Just saying everyone is acting like there is this abundance of talent to be had by La Tech when that is hardly the case.

With all this recruiting knowledge why are you guys not employed by rivals?
