The man is a better analyst than coach. He was mediocre in the NFL sans a couple of years. While he did build the Raiders and coach a Dungy built Tampa Bay team in the SB; he did nothing much after that.

He would have been a rock star by name and Knoxville would be more of a media circus than a football haven.
Nobody really knows if he would have had true success in the SEC.

I think that Butch Jones may be an inside the park home run hire. You dont have to be a flashy name (see Phil Fulmer in 92) to win championships. I say give the guy a chance and see how he does in year 2/3 before we run him out of town.

I am in no way stating Butch Jones should be given the keys to Knoxville, but at least give him praise for his enthusiasm. His energy level seems to be leaps and bounds from what Dooley portrayed.

I wanted a big name for recruiting purposes.. It's getting increasingly harder to sell UT to the top recruits.. Best thing Butch could do is exceed expectations.. Recruiting worries me with him.. I'm not sure we'll get the talent necessary to right this ship.. I think he's a better coach, if you're recruiting in the 30's and 40's it won't matter though...

The sources are on the plane with lovie. They are attempting to play one against the other to get the best coach.
Can't wait to see how this turns out.

Did anyone else hear last night, Gruden and his sidekick making fun of all the rumors that were going around, Gruden said people needs to get a life, he didnt call out Tennessee but anyone with common sense knows who he was talking about, Gruden is hollywood.

i don't think there was a reasonal amount of money that Gruden would have come here. I'm saying he turns down 7 mil my guess only this was like someone else said a giant smoke screen that the blanked up media created

Did anyone see the end of last nights game? Mike Tirico was giving Gruden a hard time about Twitter and all of the rumors of him leaving the booth. Gruden said he had no interest in Twitter and people are crazy.

Please tell me you don't actually believe this. If so, you are in the fantasy land that his agent was talking about. 80% in the gruden threads knew it was a joke and the inside sources were either trolls or were being trolled themselves. BUT, was fun to read to let the time pass till we got a real coach that wasn't a fantasy.

As far as a home run, yep needed one. Didn't happen. Stoops, Gundy, Patterson, Peterson, etc would have been great. Anyone could see based on past hires that it wasn't going to happen. You HAVE to spend it to recoup it. On the cheap AGAIN. History repeated itself but for now, it's all aboard because this staff needs all our support.
