Forgive my ignorance, but with Bama getting absolutely raided…

Why aren’t we going for more players? Is it a numbers thing or are we recruiting them and losing to FSU etc?
In case y'all needed a reminder of what Pruitt did to our recruiting capabilities:
-penalty of $8M, meant to represent the financial equivalent of missing two postseasons.

-A legislated fine of $5,000 plus 3% of the entire football budget

-Five years of probation.

-Reduction of 28 football scholarships throughout the probationary period, with a minimum of two scholarships per year.

-Reduction of 36 football official visits during the probationary period, including at least four visits per year. Tennessee will prohibit official visits for a total of 10 regular-season home games, four of which must involve SEC opponents.

-Reduction of 40 weeks for football unofficial visits during the probationary period, with a minimum of six weeks per year. Tennessee will prohibit unofficial visits for 10 regular-season home games, including four against SEC opponents.

-A 28-week ban on recruiting communications during the probationary period, including at least three weeks per year. This includes one week each in December and January, and one week between March and June.

-reduction of 120 evaluation days throughout the probationary period.

This is and will continue to be a massive blow to Tennessee's recruiting until probation is over. Coaches literally can't even talk to/ text recruits for SEVEN MONTHS over the 5 year period. You guys really should remember this because it's a massive hindrance. We would have been top 5 last year easily

I thought he came from Bama?
No he was at Bama his freshman yr & was released. Went to JC to play a yr then Tennessee.

He’s been the only former Bama player that I can recall worth much for the Vols. The others have been a disappointment IMO. Southern Cal transfers have been much better.

I’m just going to assume that a professional D1 staff is doing everything they can to improve their roster rather than set self deluding expectations and then be disappointed when my own fantasy expectations aren’t met.

The Red Elephants are due for a few down cycles.

Factual, and crazy what this staff has done under some insane conditions. Is this still considered the first year of these penalties? Is any of this retroactive from when we self imposed some penalties, or when the punishment was handed down?

It’s interesting in spite of this Heupel has managed to build this into one of the most talented rosters in the ncaa when you look at retention, recruiting, and portal additions. Haven’t checked the validity but someone posted we now have 45 kids on roster that are four star or above. Would love to see the numbers of when he started till now in average player rankings.

So the coaches can use proxies is what you're saying?

It’s worth remembering that EVERY team loses a lot of players to the portal EVERY season as coaches try to upgrade their roster. When you sign nothing but 4-star and 5-star players, the players who find their way to the portal are inevitably going to be 4-star and 5-star players.

Bama is losing a lot. But there’s still a lot in the cupboard.

Yep. They will still be loaded talent wise. A lot will depend on who they can add and how DeBoer pulls that locker room together. Bama looks far more beatable and they come to Knoxville this year.

I would suggest you go to the recruiting forum and at the top you will see a current roster thread pinned to the top. LWSVOL has provided a really detailed list of the schollie guys by years of eligibility plus other pertinent data.

Short version we are at 82 and that does not seem to include Heard the transfer.

Not sure I understand whether our fall number is 82 or 83 and we are currently at 82.

Good place to start and if you figure it all out get back to the rest of us.

Most assume we will have more losses through retirement, portal exit, medical schollie or ???? And that would allow us to pick up more.

Spraggins and others are in that number and may or may not stick.

Oh yeah, THANKS LWSVOL.

Good luck.

I believe it started in 2021. So we're entering year 4

45 is not right. 37 is the number of 4 and 5 stars

The post you replied to literally said Saban and money…
I was meaning the players who were actually playing and transfering were for more money. The ones transferring but not getting to play are transfering more for playing time than the money. Just my opinon.

I just read Bama is down 29 of their 62 listed 3 deep for this year. That includes draftees, portal, etc. No clue if that’s accurate or not, but I really hope it is.
They said 25 on Finebaum last Wednesday, so that might be about right
