Everyone's saying that Kiffin is a good hire as a coordinator, but I think he's overrated in that department. He got fired at USC this year because his offense was pitiful. I'm glad Bama hired him because they could have done a whole lot better.

This doesn't pass the smell test. A month ago he was expecting to continue on as HC at USC and now he's looking to be a position coach?

Ogre's good for one raunchy fart on a grandmother's couch a year...the residual smell should be good for at least one prospect our way.

From temporary HC at USC to D-line coach at Bama, seems like a far fall to me.

I think we're forgetting an important factor here:

Kiffin's offense at USC was borderline pathetic most of his time at USC.

I say bring it on.

You guys crack me up. Do you think Saban is going to let these guys run around like buffoons and cheat under him? Kiffin and Ed can recruit as good as anyone in the country. Ed is widely known as one of the best D-line coaches in country, and Kiffin can develop QBs and call a decent offensive game. If Bama couldn't already get any player they wanted, they sure will be able to now. This isn't going to tank Bama, this will put them back on top. Saban saw a change was needed, and Kiffin and Ed will give Bama top recruiters who are very good as position coaches/coordinators.

Speaks truth.. Saban will dominate us because he knows how to have a best staff n america.

But as we know the sunshine sheep here think that anyone not wearing orange suxs blah blah..

It really is scary to think Bama might start recruiting well, instead of playing with a rag-tag bunch of 2-stars. If Kif & O were there, I bet their recruiting class would be as good as ours. Oh, I forgot, it's better.

You look at his history, though, and you know it's a good hire.

The only way someone looks at this and thinks it's bad is if he wants it to be bad.

Take, for instance, Wade Phillips. His last year as Dallas' head coach, their defense allowed 27.3 PPG, which is good for 31 out of 32 teams. He was hired the following year as defensive coordinator for Houston. They allowed 17.4 PPG, 4th best in the NFL.

Before going to Dallas, he was the DC at San Diego, where his team allowed 18.9 (7th best). His 4 years as head coach for Dallas, the D averaged 21.5.

All this to say that you can't judge a coach's ability as a coordinator off his ability as a head coach.

Apples to Oranges.
