opposing coaches are telling recruits that the Title IX lawsuit could "lead to NCAA troubles for Tennessee".

I guess all is fair in love, war and recruiting. That is probably the reason for the slow movement on some commitments.

Just common sense really. Parents don't like seeing this sort of thing, not to mention the negative recruiting going on against us.

Yes, this was in another thread and of course, coaches are telling recruits that. Negative recruiting is more common than positive recruiting. If a coach doesn't have any dirt on a rival, he makes stuff up. However, we have ammunition for rebuttal and there is no proof that this is playing a role in any of our targets. Nigel Warrior waited until NSD despite being a legacy and a UT lean the entire process. That's how it goes sometimes. Not everyone wants to get through the process asap. I think more players are in a wait and see mode about our upcoming season than anything else. They (Higgins) want to see more wins (especially vs Florida) but also an improved passing game.

If the Title IX suit is our biggest problem, we will be fine.

Catbone, they have been throwing up innuendoes and every incident that has happened in or around campus for the last ten years. The difference between before and now? Butch has been able to bring families on campus, and now he has character players on the team that they can meet, and show them much is past, and they are working forward.

Not every recruit and their families let talking heads do their thinking for them. And yes, Anita, if you are looking in. I meant you, you stinking hag.

What NCAA rule did we break again?

Exactly. When I said in an above post that we had ammunition to fight back against that negative recruiting, that's what I meant. The Title IX suit does not involve the NCAA or any alleged rule violations. We are not under an NCAA investigation. The worst aspect of the suit are the claims made by Drae Bowles but we even have ammunition to fight that because Bowles' story has changed and it can not be proven what was said over the phone between Bowles and Butch. All that can be proven is that calls did take place...but so what?

The NCAA will probably investigate UT just for the hell of it

Not that I think we will be penalized by the NCAA, but they can punish you for having a bad culture (eg. Penn state)

If Butch stoves his toe opposing coaches will try and use it against us in recruiting. My response is, it's coming to every large major university that has cash that unscrupulous, greedy people and Lawyers think they can get their hands on.

Saying Penn State was punished for "bad culture" is like saying Charles Manson was a good motivator.

Omg... :thud:

This is a Title IX suit...not 10 years worth of child rape cover up. Our suit does not involve the NCAA and unlike Ole Miss, we are not under an investigation.

There is also no proof that this is influencing any decisions of our targets (at least not yet). Of course, coaches will put it out there and see what sticks.

exactly. I don't care if some reporter says schools are negatively recruiting. They can also say that OSU is full of criminals and Bama shuns literacy. All this thread does is propagate the hysteria that is already on the back burner and about to be gone.

schools negative recruit all of the time....

There are 13 pages of lawsuits against colleges. UT is not the only school dealing with this.

Yes and I'm more concerned about what they are saying about our passing game and our choking vs Florida than I am that stupid law suit. There is actually some validity to that and will carry more weight with players.

Where did I say that they were on the same level? I said that they can punish you for having a negative culture.

If the AA wants to try and get involved here I'll bet you'll see assemblance of lawyers not seen in some time.

All schools better hope UT is successful in combating this suit. If UT loses big time, you can bet every major university will be on the chopping block. They should be contributing to UT'S legal defense fund.

So what you're saying is that you know better than Fort. Got it.
