Four plays

Mehhh..it doesn't quite work like that. Georgia changed their gameplan to be ultra conservative and run clock in the 2nd half because they were up. Until that point we really hadn't stopped them much. There is no knowing how the game would have changed had we been able to score on offense.
This. UGA could have hung 40-50 points if they needed to. They didn’t so they took their foot off the gas and kept their defense out of bad positions

The opening series GA was moving the ball on us at will until the fumble which set us up in great field position and all we got was three points. We basically had an opportunity to gain momentum, but imo didn’t seize the moment.
GA answers and scores which is not the end of the world and we somehow stop them and allow them to punt. What do they do? Hit a freakish 75 yd punt that not even the late Ray Guy could do and for me, that changed the complexion of the entire game and gave GA all the momentum. Add our constant false starts and mental mistakes as well as missing wide open receivers didn’t allow us to switch MO on our side.
The early play by GA and our miscues set the tone then and there and it became a helluva long day

Yupp. It just felt like Georgia handled the environment better. They’ve been here before and they’re the champs. To dethrone them, we had to play our A game. Neutral site, they’re probably a better team but anything can happen. Just wish we could’ve hit a big play because that’s when our offense truly becomes threatening. Running game just couldn’t break any tackles. Oline lost the battle up front. Good learning experience. I’m not mad we lost, just disappointed we didn’t play our best football.

Consecutive 3-and-outs is not the goal of conservative play calling. Georgia got a field goal to start the second half and didn’t get another first down until the last drive of the game.

Because they committed themselves to keeping the clock running. Running on 1st and 2nd down even when we knew it was coming. Thenclosed to do this and limited us to essentially one possession the 3rd quarter though we received the ball at the start of the 2nd half

The penalties and sacks too
Our offense was definitely affected by the crowd noise. Those false starts are not typical of our offensive line. You get behind the chains. Then your tempo gets affected. Georgia can substitute freely. Your playbook becomes condensed.

Tennessee got manhandled on both sides of the ball. It wasn't even as close as the score would suggest. UGA had several drop passes that were touchdowns and overthrown balls as well. They went into clock management mode the second half otherwise it would've been much uglier. Bennett only through four passes the second half because he didn't need to do anything else since the game was so obviously in hand. Tennessee got beat by a much better team. Everyone forgot that UGA was second in total offense in the country. So you put together a top five offense and defense and this is what it looks like. Tennessee is having one of those unexpected years just like Cincinnati last year for instance.
Wow...now we are Cincinnati....

Williams has to get his ass back & catch that punt. That was a huge play in the game.
I agree! I would much rather have him field the punt at the 10 rather than get the miracle punt that lands inside the one yard line.

That's good coaching. You have that lead. Impose your will on the opponent. Shorten the game. Get the W.

First drive of the second half, they went 16 plays, but we held them to a field goal. Holding penalty killed the second drive. Fumble killed the third. So, I respectfully disagree. In spite of being whipped --especially line play on both sides of the ball -- Bennett misses one of those, Hooker hits one of those, and no flukey 75 yard punt skipping out at the one, and it's a ball game.
You can’t cherry pick who makes all the plays they “could’ve made.” Georgia had 10 sacks before yesterday and then got 6 yesterday. They turned it up because they had to, and they had the players to do it.

I was at the 96 Florida game. We were down 35-0 only 20 mins in. Florida was content to run the ball the rest of the way. Only a sheep would believe we shut them down the rest of the way, just because they didn’t score.

Football is a fickle sport.

We’re about 4 plays from being 4-5 and about 4 plays from being 9-0.

We have a great football team. We’re still in the playoff hunt too. And if not, we’re in a New Years 6 game and will likely win it.

I want to win all the games but no one can all the time.

This team has far exceeded all our predictions.

Exactly. I'm just pointing out the 2nd half approach would have been different if our offense did break through the defense earlier. To say we were two or 4 plays away is comical. Georgia controlled the game and forced us to play their way

You are right Kirby remembered the 2 interceptions SB threw and let UF get back in a game. SB had already hit banks in the numbers with what should have been a pick. SB had good fortune after that but Kirby wasn’t going to chance it 2nd half . You never know as lucky or fortunate SB was 1st half he could have thrown a pick 6 or 2 Kirby IMO wisely played conservative and ran the clock as much as he could.
The first three and out drive used less than 3 minutes and included a holding penalty. The second used 30 seconds and included a deep pass on third down. What Kirby wanted was a sustained drive. What he got was nothing.

He wasnt deep enough. He was standing at the 30, LOS was around their 30 so he was expecting a short punt. When it went over his head and the ball hit about the 18 it appeared to me.

That's not cherry picking. Those were THE big plays.

UGA dropped a deep pass late and fumbled the ball back to UT on the very next play after getting a fumble. Score on those 2 drives and the final score is 38-13.

See now how that game is played?

Out D played great. Losing by two TDs @ Athens is nothing to be ashamed of as GA is still the national reigning champs
And we connect on 3 of 4 deep balls, it’s a different game. I hate that for Hook. He’s obviously worked hard to be where he’s at.

Looking back at the game film. LOS was at the 24 of Georgia. Our man was actually at the 24 yard line of TN in the center of the hashes. He sees that it is a high punt moves to the left but stops just inside the 20 yard line. The ball bounces at the 18 and then makes that incredible dribble to land inside the one yard line. A 75 yard punt that I sincerely don't think the Georgia punter could make happen again in a 100 tries.

Play that game 10 times in Athens and GA wins 10/10

in Neyland we might win 1 out of 10.

We are lucky it wasn't 44-6.

When I realized they could play man defense (contrary to how it was billed to us) that negates our entire offense.

Just keeping it real.

GA looks like the old Alabama and they play when they have to.

Read this on twitter.

Vols defense largely played as well as it possibly could've yesterday...

387 yds: Georgia's lowest total 62 plays:
Lowest total 27 pts: 2nd lowest (26)
130 rush yds: 2nd lowest (127)
257 pass yds: 2nd lowest (208)
6.24 YPP: 2nd lowest (6.2)

"The rain prevented Georgia from running that score up tho. they were more worried about keeping the ball away from the UT offense than they were scoring."

Two long passes by Georgia, which they normally don't complete.
Two overthrown touchdown passes that Hooker normally makes.

I still look at the 2nd half and how the TN defense SHUT THEM DOWN. It was astonishing.

One 67-yard drive that ended in a field goal. After that, 3 yds - fumble, 8 yds - punt, 2 yds - punt, 12 yds - time ran out.

Dawgs played their best game and were lucky to win. If TN ends up #4 in the BCS (which I believe if we play TN football the rest of the way), it'll be a rematch in the national semifinal game.

I guarantee you the Dawgs don't want ANY of that.

They stomped us. It was much worse than the score showed. Georgia ran clock to avoid turnovers in the rain. They’d beat us anywhere we want to play because we couldn’t run, and we couldn’t beat their man coverage or stop their rush. We don’t have the horses yet.

We came within a couple of inches of taking this game to 20-27.

Meanwhile, after the 2nd half opening drive field goal, GA's possessions were:

- 3 yds and fumble
- 1st and 10 ... 2nd and 21 (holding) ... 3rd and 20 ... 4th and 18 - punt
- 1st and 10 ... 2nd and 8 ... 3rd and 12 ... 4th and 12 - punt
- 1st and 10 ... 2nd and 9 ... 3rd and 6 ... 1st down - end of game

Where's the clock running? It was mostly 3 and out.

Meanwhile, TN's possessions were:

- 25 yds - punt
- 12 yds - fumble
- 43 yds - loss on downs
- 61 yds - touchdown
- 19 yds - loss on downs

Sure, we didn't adjust well to GA pressure and Hooker was overamped, but we were not outplayed in the 2nd half. We just stunk up the first half.

I stand by my conviction that TN coaches and players will learn from this and be better because of it.

And ... will be a nightmare for GA in a rematch. I don't care that they have more 5 stars. We have more heart.

Play selection is the definition of running clock, not whether they fumbled or punted.
