Fox being sued for allegedly broadcasting ‘lies’ about Dominion

Truth is an absolute defense to these cases. Apparently fox was so lacking in confidence in their claims, that they'd rather pay three quarters of a billion dollars than try to assert their reporting was factual.

I guess it's what you might call "black box" technology since it's sealed; and when people start spouting "proprietary" about a simple process, I tend to start calling BS. Looks like some people tried very crudely to bluff Dominion into opening up about the process and had their bluff called. That's really a shame because there is reason for doubt, and we deserve better accountability. I honestly don't count on a bunch of unsophisticated and technically inept novices to know when they are buying something trustworthy or snake oil ... or believe that purchases are made without a little grease to make the deal better. Before believing that a stack of known ballots fed into a machine, gives the right answer and is proof of the process, remember that Volkswagen had a diesel engine that always passed environmental testing and that was far from the truth.

CNN Is Furious That Fox News Settled the Dominion Lawsuit out of Court

You’d think nearly a billion dollars in damages would be enough to satiate, but CNN is really, really upset that this ended up not going to trial. Oliver Darcy and Alyson Camerota took to the airwaves in the aftermath and rhetorically shook their fists at the sky.

It feels pretty weird to be dunking on CNN given that Fox News did actually take a massive blow here. $787.5 million is a ton of money, even for a large, national news outlet. Yet, the hosts over on the liberal network are just so absurd that they always manage to outpace reality.

In the end, this was never about settling a dispute for those at CNN. It was about trying to destroy Fox News, the network that constantly dominates CNN in the ratings, as a shortcut to success. Here’s an idea for the liberal network. Instead of constantly trying to get ahead by silencing other networks, how about the executives over at CNN grow a backbone and start firing the overpaid, unpopular hosts that populate the lineup? They could start with Darcy and Camerota. Continuing to just jumble up the schedule, moving the same chess pieces around obviously isn’t working.

As I said, Fox as a company had to settle. It was the fiscally responsible thing to do.

But that's because Fox as a news organization was so incredibly irresponsible.

The downside for the rest of us is that Fox's slavish audience will not be faced with the unequivocal truth that would have come out of trial: their heroes on Fox are a bunch of money grubbing liars who have never even had the pretense of their best interests at heart. They just wanted their watchers' money.

And secretly laughed at them and at Trump and his team, shaking their heads all the way to the bank at how dumb their audiences are.

The Fox audience won’t even know about the settlement because Fox hasn’t even posted a story about it on their website. The insular cult of Fox followers don’t venture from the Fox News world.

Correct, my friends and family that are religious Fox watchers don't even know about the lawsuit. Deer in the headlights when I bring it up

Bret Baier's news desk will briefly discuss it ... Howard Kurtz and Neil Cavuto think of themselves as serious journalists, so they might as well. The opinion shows will never bring it up.

Although, it would not surprise me if Jesse Watters tried to spin the settlement as a Fox News triumph :

"Dominion wanted $1.6 billion !!!! They got less than half of that !" - Jesse Watters

.... or at least, words to that effect.

Are there any regular Fox viewers/supporters here that view Fox differently now because of this?

I'm guessing not.

Hell no.

They will still gloat about where Fox News stands in the Nielsen Ratings ... even after it has been revealed what a low opinion the Fox News opinion show hosts have of their collective viewership. Fox News executives think the people who watch their prime-time shows are white trash, and they are right.

It would be too easy for CNN and MSNBC to counter that, with details of the June 9, 2016 Trump Tower meeting. LOL.

LOL that has been debunked. The Mueller Report concluded the statement was to the press and no obstruction or collusion. Think of it like what KJP, aka "The Binder", does everyday in the press room. LOL

No. Sorry, but the June 9, 2016 meeting at Trump Tower took place.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss dirt on Hillary Clinton. If nothing was inappropriate about the meeting, then why did Trump Jr. lie about it's purpose? The e-mail exchanges between Rob Goldstone and Trump Jr. make it very clear that the purpose of the meeting was to exchange dirt on HRC .... not the Magnitsky Act, nor the resumption of Americans adopting Russian children, as the Trump's pathetically tried to claim.

I don't care who the lie was directed towards. A lie is a lie. Why was that lie told, if nothing was inappropriate with that meeting? The suspicions of collusion between the 2016 Trump Campaign and the Russian government were more than justified by this inconvenient fact.

Then why did Mueller and his vast team of attorneys, supported by millions of dollars, and a no-knock warrant into Manafort's home specifically looking for information related to this meeting not charge him?

And how is that any different from the other newstainment networks?

We have covered that ... the Russians didn't have the goods on HRC.

Rob Goldstone had over-hyped the material that Natalia Veselnitskaya and her Russian pals were in possession of and would be bringing to the June 9 meeting. The "dirt" that Goldstone tried to pass off as being some sort of bombshell, contained nothing but news which had been publicly available for weeks. The Russians could have taken their "dirt" straight from Time and Newsweek.

Collusion didn't occur ... but it wasn't because Trump Jr. wouldn't have been a willing participant in a collusive effort with the Russians. It didn't occur, because the Russians did not have anything of value to exchange. Goldstone had lied.

However, the effort itself, justified the suspicions which had previously been raised.

One key difference is that many people posting in this forum take Fox as gospel, revel in fox's ratings, and talk about how "Tucker was on fire tonight."
The right-wingers on here take a lot of pride in how well Fox News does in the Nielsen Ratings. They treat those ratings as if they are a "victory" for their political ideology.
